Default Latest on Buckingham Nicks / Mac reissues

From ICE, January 2004

There was much chatter about Buckingham Nicks, the 30-year old joint album by the Fleetwood Mac titans, being included with Rhino's eagerly anticipated set of Mac reissues due in the spring. But VP of A&R David McLees warns ICE readers that the album, which has never been out on (an official) CD, "will NOT be included with the set of three [Fleetwood Mac, Rumours and Tusk] we have coming in March. It is possible, but certainly not definite, we may be able to issue the long out-of-print, legendary album in the future, but several rights issues will need to be worked out -- which we are actively pursuing."

Probably not

As usual, Warner is clueless. They could have easily reissued this album out at the time of The Dance and made lots and lots of money through four tours (Dance, Enchanted, TISL, SYW). What was lacking in 1973 and 1977 when the album was issued and later reissued was promotion. As we all know, Polydor didn't care a whole lot about the album, so they did very little to push sales.

Now that Stevie and Lindsey are established artists with the legendary Rumours history behind them, there's no question in my mind that this album will sell at least a million copies today. The fact that the album consistently tops fan polls of albums wanted on CD should be enough to tip off some idiot in the industry.

It'll definitely be a cash-cow for them... if it ever gets released.

Here's to hoping they'll work out those rights issues, and get this sucker out on the shelves.
At least we know they're finally trying.

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date, Daniel!

Question I always wondered...

if Polydor Records (Being the label that released the album) could be a possible reason for the delay in the release on cd?

The thing is, I don't think Polydor has anything more to do with Buckingham Nicks because Stevie and Lindsey bought the rights to the recording years ago, so it's totally theirs.

Based on the info that ICE magazine and some online retailers previously reported, I think Buckingham Nicks was on its way to CD via an online distributor like Amazon.com to get worldwide distribution. But Rhino put a stop to that idea once they realized what a potential goldmine they would not have any cut in. ICE was ready to print that the CD was going to be available early 2004 through the internet first when that vague statement from the Rhino rep was issued.

I think Rhino finally realized there's a demand for the album on CD, and is scrambling to put together some deal with Stevie and Lindsey.

I'm a bit confused about these reissues. They are supposed to be DVD-As, correct? I knew about Fleetwood Mac & Tusk, but why then are they also reissuing Rumours when it has already been reissued as a DVD-A (albeit not on Rhino)?

The DVD-A's are a separate project altogether from the Rhino CD remasters.

if I read right the releases in question ("Fleetwood Mac", "Tusk" & "Rumours") are just the regular cd's that will be remastered/expanded...

There is still talk of the "DVD-A" releases too...

Yeah, John and Brian are right... the DVD-As are completely separate from these Expanded/Remastered releases.

The last I heard, they were actually hoping to release the DVD-Audio versions of 'Fleetwood Mac' and 'Tusk' on or around the same date as the Remastered/Expanded discs.

They'd join the already released DVD-A of 'Rumours,' and all three albums would be available in both formats.

This is what confused me. Thanks for the clarification.

Geez...I swear, this has been the longest process...or so it seems.

I remember once, about six years ago, I found a boot copy of B/N on cd at a used record shop...and the guy at the counter told me then that the actual album would be released on cd soon lol...it never came...and I'm still hearing of the struggles to get it released...crazy stuff....

this case just comes to show just how stupidly beaurocratic the music/publishing biz are.
i disagree with the assumption made here that this album's a goldmine, everyone who wanted a digital copy of it has already made one from downloaded mp3's or bought a bootlegged copy.
those who will buy a legit copy are a limited number of hardcore fans, they'd be lucky to shift 100,000 copies.
basically they are now shutting she stable doors after most of the the horses has bolted ages ago... dumbasses....
