Default We now have a clue...

...how it would've turned out HAD Lindsey & Stevie gotten married & had kids:

Just look at Pat Benatar & Neil Geraldo.

Talking Love them!

Yeah, exactly...I honestly don't think Stevie WANTED or still WANTS to be married. I think she makes too big a deal of how it wouldn't work...people have made it work, you just have to WANT it to work bad enough.

You know what..here's an unpopular opinion. Stevie's TOO romantic...I think she sees fantasy romance as real and has become a lil disillusioned. *ducks* I love her, ya'll know that, but I think that kind of thinking hurts her love life.

yeah it's obvious that Stevie doesn't want to be married, especially now. She only pays lip service by saying stuff like, "their just wasn't time", or "I'm gone all the time and men don't like to be left behind" because that's what women are supposed to want-- a husband, kids and the white picket fence. Stevie wanted her career, her adoring fans, and being the high priestess of rock and roll, more power to her. I mean, who can blame her? Sounds great to me...

Last time I saw Pat, her daughter (Hayley?) performed in the show. She and Neil have that sme kind of chemistry as Stevie and Lindsey. They look at each other in the same kind of way.

Also, I think it's okay that Stevie isn't married. We're not on the ark or anything.

Be prepared to duck!!!

I'm just kidding...I agree with you 100%...I seem to remember (i'll have to check my tapes) I think it was a VH-1 special (either Behind the Music or the Rumours Ultimate albums thingy) but Stevie was giving an interview...she had the ocean behind her and I could swear she says something to the effect of the only regret was she never married and never had children...and then went to say...almost exasperated..."there wasn't anytime!!!"...And then in other articles and interviews she seems to not 'regret' it....saying THIS is what she wanted her whole life...to write music and inspire and have legions of fans who 'get her'..(I'm just paraphrasing here)

Still and all, yes I agree...ANYTHING is possible if you want it badly enough....Stevie didn't...Pat and Neil DID...and it's great that they are still together and very much in love to this day!!

You're just crying out for a white-winged dove reference here, aren't you.

Stevie and Lindsey had twin egos that were way too big to make a marriage work. Pat knew what not to do with Neil becasue she'd already been married and divorced before meeting him. Stevie and Lindsey did not gain the maturity to be married until it was too late. That was ok for Lindsey. At his age he's still got the trophy wife and the baby kidos. Stevie, like of lot of women rockers, never found an equal who could deal with her fame and lifestyle. Lindsey probably couldn't deal with it back then either, but Stevie could have had her music career and her man too, if she had given up being top dog and supported what Lindsey wanted to do rather than putting her agenda first. I think he would have given her the proper place in the spotlight. He just didn't want to fight for every ounce of support from her when there was a disagreement. Stevie has said she wasn't always able to "be there" for him. Lindsey was not happy about her lack of loyalty to his artistic vision. She seemed to want to do whatever it took to get the money and the fame. He wanted to follow his musical ideas for better or worse. He wasn't always willing to give her credit for her talent as a writer, but I also figure he was probably often right when he didn't like something she'd written. She couldn't handle criticism with grace and he couldn't give it without a twinge of jealousy. Both spoiled brats I'm afraid. I think in marriage neither wanted it for better or worse. Stevie probably thought of marriage in ultra romantic terms, not in the day to day grind of standing by her man. I'm guessing that if she had to do it over she would do it differently. She says she has no regrets, but that's not what I hear in her voice when she says it...not as Lindsey's wife stares at her while she speaks.

As far as Stevie having regrets now...

I think she doth protest too much.

I think she has alot of regrets, but what is she supposed to do about it now, really? She can't change it, and wallowing around in self-pity (at least not publicly) isn't going to accomplish anything except make her look like some kind of tragic Norma Desmond-type....... I think she'd rather die than be pited that way.

Both she and Lindsey let each other down. I see weaknesses on both their parts. If one had been willing to step back a bit for the other, like Neil did for Pat, then they would have had a chance. I think if Lindsey had stepped back for Stevie, she would have made sure he eventually got his due, and would probably be in a much better place today. If Stevie had stepped back for Lindsey, and supported his artisitc vision, as someone else already said, then face it, Stevie was going to get attention.... there was no hiding her light back in those days, I mean, the girl didn't exactly have to work very hard to get noticed....

They both could have worked harder at their relationship. I don't think you can blame just one of them.

I think she has come to terms with alot of it. She knows she can still be happy, and I don't think she is truly in a depression about it or anything, but knowing her romantic nature (Lindsey: She romanticizes her own romanticism) I am convinced she would do a few things differently if she really was given a "do over" for parts of her life. It must be hard as hell to go home to cold empty bed every night..... especially when nobody ELSE is.

I also see a TON of regret in Lindsey's eyes when he looks at Stevie.

Maybe I'm just enough of a romantic myself that I'd like to think that every now and then they let the years fall away, and he gets to be with "the girl I used to live with", and she lets him "take me back to the 70's".

Well, with all of her inherited musical connections perhaps we will see Jesse James Nicks as the opening act for her auntie in a few years.

It wouldn't surprise me to see her standing next to Sharon Celani one of these days.
