Forgive my ignorance on the subject of Jimmy Iovine.
I know he walked out of the RAL sessions. I know he's interviewed on Behind the Music. Is he still producing albums these days? Are he and Stevie in contact these days? Is there ANY chance he would produce her next album now that she's not falling off stages on drugs or wearing half-moon charms? Fill me in, please. - Jake

As far as I know, he still has a unibrow, is still producing and in fact, I believe he was thanked at the VMA's tonight by Eminem. I have a feeling he and Stevie must keep some sort of contact. Didn't she have all of her friends listen to her music and help her decide what should be put on the Enchanted box set? Jimmy is thanked by her on that album so I would think they still speak on occassion.

One thing about Stevie, is that she still seems to be on good terms with the men she's dated.
Gotta give the woman a lot of credit! Nowadays, Jimmy Iovine is the head of Interscope Records, and I don't think he does any production work anymore... so I doubt he'd ever come out of "retirement" to produce another album for Stevie. Too bad... he shouldn't be wasting his time on the likes of "in the right place at the right time" guys like Eminem. But that's just my opinion. ![]()

I know that Jimmy has done some production work on Eminem records.
He also produced one song for the band Rooney on their debut album. They're an awesome (and HOT!) new rock band. Check them out! Susie

I know that Rooney is named for the Ferris Buehller character, but I haven't heard them.
I know that Stevie thanked Jimmy, but that doesn't mean that they're in contact. She thanked her producers in the TimeSpace days, too, and I doubt they were in contact then. Eminem. Yuck. Maybe Jimmy will help him re-do the Bella Donna and Wild Heart albums? - Jake

Rooney was just on David Letterman's show last night.
Ahh...Jimmy Iovine. John Lennon taught him how to mic a grand piano. (Jimmy worked as assistant recording engineer on Lennon's Walls & Bridges) |

Little Jimmy Iovine has gone on to be a Big Name in the Music Industry, heading up Interscope. His wife, Vicki Iovine has written a series of books called "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" "Toddlers", "Motherhood", etc. I think she's a former model. They have several kids.

That demo Jimmy Come Back is awful. Not just in quality, but the song itself. I always thought that Jimmy came off as possessive towards Stevie. Didn't seem like the easiest guy to be around. ![]()

Jimmy Iovine owns Interscope Records along with a few other people. It is my understanding that he is more on the development side of things than producing now. He produced one of my favorite records back in the day, Patti Smith's Easter. He produced Bruce Springsteen. He contributes a lot of time and money to charity. I think one of his pet charities is the Special Olympics. He was also a driving force behind the Very Special Christmas records/cd's that Stevie is on.

I never understood why Stevie found him so attractive - that unibrow still reminds me of Gonzo from the muppets. Just wax that sucker!!

I've often thought that the lines, "And you, you got in my way... stood between me, and my friends," were about Jimmy, as I've heard that he was indeed very possessive of Stevie, and a bit controling. I'm sure that behaviour was probably reassuring to Stevie right at first, because, as excited as she was about beginning her solo career, she was also scared to be without the safety net of Lindsey and Fleetwood Mac. So Jimmy's dominance was probably comforting to her in the beginning. But Stevie doesn't strike me as someone who can remain under someone's thumb for very long (witness the push/pull nature of her and Lindsey's relationship), so it's no surprise that she eventually started clashing with him. It probably became a battle of wills (and egos), and I'll bet they fought over things even when one or the other was clearly right. But... again... it does seem that they're once again on friendly terms (and have been since 1987, when she recorded "Silent Night" for his 'A Very Special Christmas' project), so it seems that they've "let bygones be forgotten."
