Pick 13 UNRELEASED demos/outtakes for the next solo album.

[darklinensuit]

Of course, Stevie would include new songs on any new album, but just for fun, pick the 13 old ones that you'd want. To narrow the choices, songs that are on albums (even with a different title or "feel") or even on b-sides are not eligible.
Here are my choices:

Lady from the Mountain (surprise)
Sanctuary
She Loves him Still
Cathouse Blues
All the Beautiful Worlds
Love and War
Forest of the Black Roses
Amber
Do I Bring you Down
All the King's Horses
The Dealer
Juliet
Are you Mine

(Also, Wear my Ring around your Neck isn't really a demo, but I love this little number from Divas Live. At Last is also great, and I'm on the fence as to whether I can include it, based on my own rules. It WAS on that AT&T promotional CD.)

Believe it or not, I haven't heard some of the more recent outtakes that people always rave about, such as Space Needle and Annabel Lee.

[gypsysara]

Space Needle and The Dealer for sure!

[cliffdweller]

I do know one that I've been dying to hear her do as a finished song: "Cecilia", what a groovy rhythmic song!

[macmar71]

All the King's Horses
Lady from the Mountain
Castaway
The Dealer
Secret Love
WatchDevil
Julia
Spinning Wheels
Sanctuary
Forest of the Black Roses
She Still Loves Him

I also think that if there is another Mac album in the future that If You Were My Love and Without You should be on it!

[gldstwmn]

These are in no particular order:
Watchdevil
China Doll
If You Were My Love
Julia
The Dealer
Sanctuary
Mix Down (Love & War)
All The Beautiful Worlds
Space Needle
Night Gallery
All The King's Horses
Are You Mine
City OF Hope

Is Do I Bring You Down really Stevie?

[Christopher]

She Still loves Him- This is such a moving song...thou I dont know if Stevie could match the delicate vocal of the demo now

All The Beautiful Worlds!!!!! -this really should have made the Wild Heart!!!

Julia- "suffer for the Love"

Forest Of the Black Roses- this song has that mysterious POTU vibe and is intensely dramatic could be her modern day SOTM

If You Were My Love

Mistaken Love

Lady From the Mountain

But I'm also greatly encourage by her new compostions esp. SYW, Destiny Rules, and Illume...that She hasnt lost it and can still pull out a few great new songs for the next project...I kinda suspect it will be solo...not FM...its just a feeling....

[darklinensuit]

It seems that a lot of our picks match. (I didn't think they would.)

Stevie, are you reading this?

Oh, macmar71, I love Secret Love, too.

[Wldhrt315]

Over the past 6 years I have collected numerous version of demos and outtakes of released songs. To pick 13 of my favorites is kind of difficult but here I go....

(In alphabetical order)

All The Beautiful Worlds
All The Kings Horses
Belle Fleur
Cecelia
China Doll
The Dealer
If You Were My Love
Julia
Lady From The Mountain
Love Don't Fail Me Now
Mistaken Love
Sanctuary
Secret Love
She Loves Him Still
Watchdevil

Well I chose 15 of them.

[belladonna.]

where do you guys get all these songs from? i havent heard very many of them~and i havent even heard OF some of em! i would absolutely LOVE to hear these songs!!

[Wldhrt315]

Hi there, go to kazaa or any music sharing program and type in the names of the songs.

[ERigby818]

I'd like to hear her record:

City of Hope
All the Beautiful Worlds
At The Fair (if she can still get those notes out)
Sanctuary
Baby Doll
Belle Fleur
Something Exquisite
Love Don't Fail Me Now
Love And War
Mabel Normand

That's just 10. I can't think of any more I'd really want her to record now because I think they may be too tough, vocally. But then again, she did blow me away on SYW by belting out Smile At You in its original key.

[skcin]

Ooooh, yes, all of the above! Especially:

China Doll
Lady From the Mountain
Space Needle
Watchdevil
Mistaken Love
The Dealer
3 Birds of Rhiannon

Paula

[rianbay1]

would love to see:

1. The Dealer (Could EASILY be a single, and a good one at that!)
2. Forest of the Black Roses
3. Knockin' on Doors
4. Lady From the Mountains
5. If You Were my love
6. Ooh Baby (GOTTA do this one with an orchestra of some sort!!)
7. Space needle
8. Julia
9. She still loves him
10. She calls you missing (I know this song morphed into "Love is like a River, but it doesn't sound anything like it.)
11. Joan of Arc
12. Sanctuary
13. City of hope

Some one should send these lists to HK management. lol. Maybe she's forgotten about some of these.

Crikey, Stevie has so many amazing songs that remain unreleased, that it's absolutely mind-boggling!
Which is why I was so thrilled that for 'TISL' and 'SYW,' she went all the way back to her '70s era tunes, and picked out a few that were long overdue for release.

Truly, if she were so inclined, she'd never have to write another song... she could just start recording and releasing her vaulted material.
Yet, Stevie doesn't "cheat"... she always makes sure that her albums have a healthy balance of newly-written songs, and a sprinkling of the aforementioned vaulted songs.

Some tracks that i'd like to see released on the next solo and/or Mac albums....

1. She Still Loves Him
2. Something Exquisite
3. If You Were My Love
4. Belle Fleur (*** this one is perfect for Sheryl Crow's production style.)
5. Julia
6. The Dealer
7. Space Needle (*** it needs some refinement, but this song has so much potential)
8. All The Beautiful Worlds
9. Lady From The Mountain
10. You Like Me
11. China Doll
12. Without You
13. Spinning Wheels

Great thread, Jake!
(By the way, you included "Juliet" in your list, which was released on 'The Other Side Of The Mirror'... I'm guessing you meant "Julia"!)

You're absolutely right. Of course I meant Julia. Duh. (Not enough sleep lately.)

Last time I checked this thread, I was struck by the similarities in many of the choices. This time I'm noticing differences. I think it's great that so many of us like Lady from the Mountain, Sanctuary, and All the Beautiful Worlds. I have to say that Cecelia and Belle Fleur took time to grow on me. Actually, lots of time. (Maybe it's that I haven't heard many versions of either one, so I've missed the best versions; sometimes there's a huge difference between Stevie's takes from year to year.) At the same time, I seem to be the only one who cares for Cathouse Blues, or maybe people are concerned that she can't hit those notes any longer. Of course, the differences in taste are what make this board interesting.

And I, too, love that she includes old songs on new albums. They fit right in. I think one day she'll throw in I've Loved and I've Lost.
