Question Very Best of FM - any advantage?

I own all of the albums from the Rumours lineup (except the boxed set)...do I have anything to gain by purchasing the "Very Best of FM"? Any unreleased material on there?

Not really - The Chain boxed set has more unreleased stuff and alternate mixes of old stuff. If I were you, I wouldn't waste my $ on the VBO CD, but would definitely get the boxed set.

Just my 2 cents!

VBO has some different mixes, I especially like that there's no fade on the begining of Over My Head. I believe the sound quality is better. I"ve been listening to this for the last couple of days.

There's a different Rhiannon "radio" mix, with an extra guitar layer, and it's really good. Think About Me is much improved because it seems to have been remixed with Lindsey's voice much more prominent, and of course Sara is unedited, but on the downside, they butchered the Live ISA, and you don't get TITN album studio Big Love, which I really prefer, instead you get the Live version. I don't see why they couldn't have included both.

I agree with Livia, skip this one and get the Chain box instead.

I think the guitars on Rhannon & Over My Head really add something.

I think this album is WORLDS better than '88 Greated Hits, but The Chain is a better buy when it comes to the hard-to-finds.

The thing with the VBOFM was the video footage of the making of the album. Since it was before Say You Will was released, it was a nice mini spoiler and an inside look at the goings on. Plus you get Go Insane love from The Dance, the Rhiannon and Over My Head radio mixes, and a much better Silver Springs original studio version. The Chain box set one is kind of quieter. But, you'll get new songs on The Chain. If price is an issue too, TVBOFM is better because The Chain is kind of rare to find...I think I paid like, $60 for it.

You also get the single mix of SOTM - the difference of which is negligible.

Very Best Of doesn't offer that much if you already have the 5 studio albums from 75-87 and the dance. Get the Box Set. It contains some rarities, as well as plenty of material from the Peter Green years, Danny Kirwin, Bob Welch, etc. Some of which is as good as the Rumours era years.
