The biggest problem with S&L is that they have too much bs history that they keep dragging around with them.

Was Lindsey a total a-hole who was nasty and condescending to Stevie? Yes. Not always, but certainly for some period after the split.

Was Stevie petulant and demanding diva? Yes. Not always, but certainly she's had her moments. "I demand the Presidential suite in every hotel because I deserve it".

etc etc etc.

The problem is, they are locked into their co-dependent dance forever it seems. Everyone else in the band has commented on it. Mick has said it repeatedly and recently --- they do some serious button pushing of each other. Christine said in an interview around the time she was coming back that Stevie and Lindsey realllllllly don't like each other. Mick, in fact, has commented something along the lines of watching Chris and John chatting on the side of the stage all friendly on this last tour and that would NEVER be the case with Stevie and Lindsey, regardless of the act the play onstage. John has even commented that the tension with S&L is very real. Hell, even that no-holds-barred truth-teller Tom Petty said, "They love each other but they also realllllly hate each other".

At this point it feels like they are in a cycle that they'll never really get out of.

We can blame all of them at one point or another for not releasing a complete album of new music in thirteen years.

But the way it stands now, Christine and Lindsey have a lot of songs. These are, supposedly, "profound."

I gave up on new Mac music a long time ago, but now am really really really really pissed because in 2014 we were promised an eventual album. It is two years later and no certain or concrete information has emerged since then. I am frustrated and pissed beyond all measure. Right now, I wish Christine never rejoined and worked on the solo album that she said she was interested in doing if she didn't come back to the Mac. I want new music from her. From her. I couldn't care less about the other two.

The thing is when Lindsey took that break to do his solo music (which is what I assume you're referring to), it's not like the band was going to otherwise record. Stevie was not going to go back in and record another album and then tour it. So Lindsey wasn't keeping an otherwise willing band from recording. In fact, if the band was willing to I think it's been said Lindsey wouldn't have taken that break, but he saw that the band was reluctant to record again so he took an official leave (including from touring which is all they've done since). I don't think it had any effect on their potential recorded output though as Stevie, to our knowledge, hasn't contributed a single new song to the band since Say You Will. I don't think Lindsey has ever been the problem keeping them from following up Say You Will. He's been the main one championing releasing new material.

Either come back with some real facts or maybe you'd be best served to just quit already.
But now we're muddling events. You are talking about The Dance reunion, but Mitzo was talking about the makings of TITN and SYW. It certainly wasn't Stevie who reconvened the band for either of those records, as she was on tour when each of them was started.

I thought it was Lindsey who gave a "don't come knocking for 3 years" decree after the SYW tour.

That's exactly what I was just talking about. Reread my post with that in mind.

To summarize, Lindsey asking for 3 years off, while possibly kept the band from touring, likely did not hinder them from recording because they weren't going to anyway. Stevie was not up for it following Say You Will album and tour and she still isn't up for it.

Well Say You Will was an extension of The Dance. They had done their reunion tour now it was time to do a record, only Christine had left following the tour. It was not a separate reunion. The band has not broken up since The Dance, they've just alternated between doing band work and doing solo.

Lindsey didn't call the band and ask to have his music be used for a new album for Tango. That came from elsewhere.

Actually, it was Christine's recording of A Fine Mess soundtrack that evolved TITN.

That's a blatant lie.

Here is Lindsey's statement, issued through his manager. "In 1985, I was working on my third solo album when the band came to me and asked me to produce the next Fleetwood Mac project. At that point, I put aside my solo work, which was half-finished, and committed myself for the next 17 months to produce Tango in the Night. It was always our understanding that upon completion of the Tango album I would return to my solo work. Of course I wish them all the success in the world on the road."
Mick, who went bankrupt in 1984, was pushing hard for a Fleetwood Mac album, to the point where he threatened to get an outside producer. Obviously, that got Lindsey's attention.

As for SYW/Gift of Screws...Let me get this straight: That was Lindsey unloading his solo songs that he recorded with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and to a lesser extent Christine McVie onto Fleetwood Mac? Keeping in mind that Lindsey rekindled his personal and professional relationship with Mick, John, and Christine around the time Fleetwood Mac was finishing "Time" (hence Lindsey singing backing vocals on "Nothing Without You) and was basically in the process of splitting up. There was no Fleetwood Mac when the project started. If anything GoS brought Fleetwood Mac back from the grave. Ultimately, it was the label pressuring Lindsey to release it as Fleetwood Mac, since it could have legitimately gone either way. As it is, the songs on the leaked version of GoS have spanned out over several albums, Mac or solo. Implying Lindsey was unloading songs that he recorded with Fleetwood Mac onto Fleetwood Mac is one of the most intellectually lazy things I've ever seen in here.

Funny thing about that, Fleetwood Mac had disbanded when Lindsey hired Mick, John, and Christine to play on his album. Oddly enough, Stevie hired Lindsey not too long thereafter to record "Twisted."

Not true. Post-Rumours, Stevie had three singles in the top twenty, compared to Lindsey's two, HOWEVER...BOTH of Lindsey's songs cracked the top ten, compared to only one of Stevie's.

Of course her albums will sell better. Stevie plays it safe. She makes sure her solo albums feature stars d'jour. BD had Don Henley and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, TOSOTM had Bruce Hornsby and Kenny G, and TISL had Sheryl Crow and Natalie Maines. Ever since “Whenever I Call You Friend” Stevie has been able to be seen as an entity outside of Fleetwood Mac, which wasn’t the case for Lindsey, or Christine for that matter. Lindsey’s album generally only feature Lindsey and are pretty experimental.

That being said, SWY sold over twice as many copies as TISL.

If they hadn't promised new music and even bragged about it in Rolling Stone two years ago, I wouldn't be upset. I'd have seen them for what they really are: an oldies touring troup.

But they (save Stevie and John) did advertise new music and they did press the point that they were committed to a collaborative new venture. Articles in Rolling Stone (with pictures!) and discussions of the new record while touring....all this. If they'd only shut their mouths and raked in touring money, I wouldn't have cared.

But there's new music partially recorded and there's genuine excitement from two of the band's three songwriters....we came so close to the possibility of a record. And to see that possibility die the way it is dying is awful. At this point, if Lindsey and Christine don't release it as a duo, then they are just as much to blame as Stevie.

I'd have cared. I didn't only get excited for new music when they announced they were working on it. That's exactly what I want them to do. And, as I've said before, I really don't care that Christine is back if there's no new music. It doesn't tug at my nostalgia strings to see them all up there. I didn't even get into the band until The Dance and I was in junior high. Some new music is the only thing that will get me excited in what they're doing.
