If she were really smart, she'd instigate something like this, promise a full-length concert of mostly rarities/surprises to lure the hardcore fans, charge a minimum five hundred dollar "donation," and give all of the money to Walter Reed, or AHI, or whatever good cause strikes her fancy.

I still wouldn't go. But I'd be proud of her.

Let's be realistic. If all goes well and she gets booked for this party, it's simply going to be another gig for her. Does anyone honestly believe that prior to performing at this party, she's going to convene her band together to bang out live arrangements for songs that she's never performed live before? It's most likely going to be a standard Nicks set and Rickypt has the right idea when he says that if you go in with those expectations, you won't be disappointed. She's been under the (misguided) assumption that all anyone really wants to hear are her hits, so if she's even informed that this is being put together by fans, she's going to think "Fans? Paying all this money? Oh, I must give them the hits and nothing but." When your diehard fans show up to all your concerts and sing along to all the same old songs, I'm sure one starts to adhere to the if-it-ain't-broke philosophy.

Oh, man, this one lady got soooooooooo mad that the security guards stopped people from doing the Edge stage rush in Vegas (Wed. Night). I was mad, too (mainly because Paula snuck in right in front of me, and so I was basically the last person NOT let past, and I've never gotten to touch her tiny paw) but for goodness sakes, it wasn't the end of the world. Not even close.

This lady kept screaming and screaming and causing a scene, meanwhile all of us left back are trying to enjoy watching the Edge walk, seeing our friends shake hands and stuff. Of course the lady had to be right by me. I believe she was so mad she left the concert right then. I mean, talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face. "I'm so mad at not being up front for this moment of Stevie's concert, that I'm going to leave Stevie's concert!!!"

Yep, there's at least a few in every crowd. Hopefully, if this party does happen, it won't turn into that. I'd think that since most people going will probably know each other from the boards, there won't be any fights. But you never know if any crazies might show up.

At the one concert I went to last summer, I actually saw people trying to get past security by saying stuff like "I named my kid Rhiannon, you gotta let me near her" or "I've got a Buckingham Nicks album I've gotta get her to sign." That worked splendidly.

Yeah, that was the kind of stupid stuff this lady was saying. She appeared to be a normal (if pretty big) middle age lady, otherwise. She wasn't dressed Stevily.
She was like "do you know how long I've been a fan???"

You know, I know about some of the people from the boards, and a few are strange. Not quite sure the extent of the strange, though.

Nothing could be worse than the lady next to me at one of the SYW shows screaming at MICK to play "Silver Springs!"

I would have busted a gut laughing if she hadn't been right in my ear with it. Ugh. She was so f*cking wasted too, her face was all red and puffy. I was mad because I had finally made it up to the front and then had to contend with this drunken lunatic shouting at Mick of all people to play Silver Springs (this was after they dropped it from the setlist--so, second leg of the first SYW tour?) anyway, I wanted to tell this woman that they had dropped it from the setlist, but really, how can you reason with a flailing, drunken banshee-woman?

Sometimes you can! Your story reminded me of when Elvis Costello played the Taste of Chicago a few years ago. It was toward the end of his set, and this middle-aged woman in a tank-top and sunglasses with a beer in her hand who had probably driven in from one of the southwest suburbs for the day (because who doesn't head into the city for the Taste?!) walked up to me and said in a loud, slightly recneck-y, slightly drunken voice: "Hey, 'd he play 'Alison' yet?!" I offered a pity smile and answered, "Yeah, I'm sorry, he already did a few songs ago." She just kind of clenched her fist, said, "Well, shoot!" and walked off.

, not really, I probably would have told her the same thing you did. But seriously, the urge to be a smart-ass would have been within me. It always gauls me when people go to shows and just want to hear one song, I mean, why go?

Well, to be fair, it was the Taste of Chicago, not a regular concert. Taste of Chicago is an annual event where a bunch of restaurants from all over the city set up booths all around Grant Park, and you go and buy tickets which you can redeem for food at all the different booths, and meanwhile there's a main stage where bands play, and anybody in the city can walk by and catch a performance for free. So it's not like she bought a ticket for an Elvis Costello concert just to hear "Alison;" she probably just came into the city for the Taste and hoped to catch some of his set while she was there.

It's why Midwesterners are fat, basically! You buy a strip of 11 tickets for $7, and every booth has a "Taste portion" of something for just 3 tickets, in addition to larger, more expensive items (although the Taste portions can still be pretty hefty; you get a lot of bang for your buck). I've still got my list of what I ate last year:

Turkey leg (9 tickets)
Crab cake nuggets (7)
1 liter of water (5)
Fried ravioli (3)
Biryani (3)
Samosa (3)
Pierogi (3)
Pad thai tofu (3)
Beef on a stick (3)
Steak sandwich (3)
Cheesecake (3)

45 tickets total, meaning I bought four strips of 11 (and bummed the last one from a friend) for $28. That's a hell of a lot of food for $28, and I can only imagine that most people spend quite a bit more than that, especially if they go more than once (it's a 10-day event). Also note that very little of what I got was terribly healthful; this is not an event for the garden salad crowd.
