Thanks for your reply, Jannie.
First, I've never abused illegal drugs*. My opiate abuse began in the past few years, after I'd been on them for at least four years. It was many years ago when I'd been informed of my 'defective' opiate receptors, long before I had any dependency of any kind, on anything. I had been told that my effed up opiate receptors are due to depression of about 30 years that hadn't been treated, not because I had used heroin- I never once tried it even, or any hard drug. This was told to me close to 8 years ago, after my doctor saw improvement after I initially began the Percocet. I was lead to believe it was not 2 separate issues, the depression and the opiate receptors, in my case, as the receptors were preventing drugs she expected to work from being of use at all. If it weren't for the Adderall, which I got in my first visit and helped right away, the first year would have been a total disaster, as we tried 5 different (or 6?) anti-depressant drugs, all for a few months each. Eventually, we found the opiates worked. Yay! But they get very hard to take as directed! *I loved pot in my 20s, technically illegal, but she never said to me the pot smoking caused my whacked-out opiate receptors and I'm not certain I abused pot, but I liked it, greatly!! ('Shoulda just become a full-on pot head' has entered my mind tons during the past decade of hit or miss legal drugs.) I quit smoking pot because I didnt want to do anything illegal and figured maybe I could stop self-medicating and get 'well' and, perhaps, yes, get an alternative legal buzz. And yes, I had a similar reaction to yours with her comment 'Its just the way you always have been and there's no cure"- I was 'great. good to know that.' I don't know what I thought about all that, really. The opiates were helping, at the time I wasn't taking them long and wasn't taking too many, and thought 'I feel better than I did'. Lastly, I thank you, because from you was the first time that I have ever heard that the opiate receptors do have a chance of repairing or regenerating, even if slowly, and I had never been told that before. I feel actually a little bit hopeful, useful tonight. Thanks very much. I think I'm going to listen to my dad and get a new doctor. PS- I've never had shock treatment, which you said happens sometimes, near the end of your message, and it hasn't been recommended. Last edited by Nikolaj; 07-09-2010 at 12:07 PM.. |

Quick clarification: NOT a doctor, here.
I diagnosis mental illness all day, every day, and treat with therapy. I do NOT prescribe medication and don't advise on medication. I have a working knowledge of what does what, but that's it. |
