Weird, but when it is sunny, warm/hot and clear outside I get somewhat depressed...But if it is grey/dreary/cold I am in a very happy & content mood.
Move to Oregon or Washington. You'll be happy as hell 3/4 of the year, dude.

BTW, I could write you a novel about other major gripes and tragedies that have passed through my world. It's the little stuff that gets me.

writing a book myself, but knowing most people they would assume it is fiction, when it is reality & factual...

As much hell I have lived through in my life is why I have so much grey in hair...It's been there since I was 20 (15 years ago).

Little stuff doesnt bother me, it's all the tangled wreckage of the past that comes back out of the closet like a skeleton that taunts me that I cant deal with.

I only say mad because I am horny.

F that. I have a shower and a swimming pool and a hose. I am plenty clean.
Spotless, in fact. Immaculate. Sparkly and squeaky and ready to eat.

I still have no new roof, and need I remind you that last January I had a landslide on my property that is going to cost me ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND dollars to fix ?

I hate rain.
Okay, Sam L.! I understand about Oregon.
It was a theoretical Spanish BF, it was a joke.
If I was mad every time I was horny...wait...maybe that's it!!!
That's cool, about your SP, and your Hose, and your shower. I get it.
but it has been six months or so, here. Plus it's often cloudy or foggy here, and cold, so it's like, there should be rain.
Sorry about your landslide.
As an environmentalist, I'm going to have to say:
don't build your **** on a hill in an erosion prone/earthquake dangerous zone.
As I friend, I'm sooo sorry!
Wait...One hundred thousand dollars?!?!? yeah. there shouldn't be buildings there. And I'm very sorry.

WINTER. Not as much because of the cold, but because of the short days we have here. Sun goes up at nine (when I'm already at work) and goes down at four (when I'm still at work). Which means that the only sunlight I get is through windows.

I didn't build this friggin house !

I am not worried about earthquakes. My house is built on a 3' concrete slab poured onto bedrock. Alas, Caltrans didn't build proper drainage for the freeway so all their water came onto my property and decimated the hill behind my house. Worry not. I am suing them.

As a snobby landowner in LA - of course I bought a house on a hill with a swimming pool and a "movie star view". Wouldn't you, Greta ?

There just hadn't been a rainy season like jan/feb of 2005 in over a hundred years and I didn't know the state property had no drainage system. Now I know. And I have a mean attorney.

Crushes that you know won't go anywhere.

Certain songs, especially when I'm already in a down mood.

Thinking about my future.

Watching it snow late at night during the winter.

But it's true, you can find perfectly adequately comfortable flat shoes that...well....don't look stupid with your tights and skirt.
Shoes don't have the support and shock absorption that sneakers have. Make me a shoe that does and I will wear it. Some people have back problems so it isn't wise to walk a lot in improper shoes. Although I did walk an awful lot last night in my kitten heeled boots. But that is not an every day thing! Plus the heel is so low.

When I was a little kid, my father used to sing the Meatball Song, you know the one :

On top of Spaghetti
All covered with cheese
I lost my poor meatball
When I had to sneeze.
It rolled off the table
And onto the floor
And then my poor meatball
Rolled out of the door.
It rolled off the front porch
And under a bush
And then my poor meatball
Was nothing but mush.

I used to cry for the poor meatball. Seriously.

But, besides that, animal cruelty and death are at the top of the list.

I'm thinking of getting a light box this year because we have almost as little light as you in the winter. I think the sun comes up a bit earlier but the shortest days do get dark at 4:00. That really depresses me.

What you said about right wing parties, lately that has been bringing me to tears very easily. I get so frustrated when I cannot communicate the truth to people. It's making me sad as I type.

Going to get my car and it is not there because it has been towed.

The fact that the things that depress me are trivial compared to others' real problems depresses me.

Children/animal neglect and cruelty.

My debt.

Animal cruelty

The rise of conservatism

The war in Iraq

Natural disasters

Getting older (I'll be 25 in 7 months, ack!) and still having nothing to show for it

The state of popular music

That's all for now... though I'm sure I'll think of more.

My chapter (and I BETTER get a FU*KING chapter ) would be entitled:

LUSH - its a high class problem

Confessions of a Southern former beauty queen. "On a bleak [November] morning, I came forth like an echo from the hills of Cochemara, whilst Diedre wept cruel tears . . . . ," wqhich most def. is a better way to say "on the day I was born, it rained"

Listening to my roommates have sex (when I currently am not having any) depresses me.

Sleeping alone when there's someone in particular that I would like to be sleeping with. But a trip to Wendy's for a double cheeseburger combo should cure this.

Overcast skies tend to depress me. I think I have SAD or something.

It's interesting (at least to me) that virtually nothing most of you cite as depressants is of what I or most of us would consider joyous, pleasureful or even affectively neutral (although one of you very astutely mentioned old photos).

Our affects can be so unpredictable; they can be brought low by the most seemingly innocent or neutral of sights, recollections, or musings.

I think of William Styron's recollection of the terror he suddenly felt -- which helped trigger a depression -- on a walk along the lakeshore of his summer home when a flock of geese suddenly flew skyward.

I once saw a lizard -- a harmless, cute enough little lizard -- dart across an expanse of low-cut bushes; & this for some reason laid me low in the following weeks with maleficent effect. There's no simple explanation for it, for the mind has its own motor.
