I forgot all the fantastic Big Star albums, #1 Record, Radio City and probably best of all, Sister Lovers.

I really LOVED "Tommy"

I also loved all the LZ stuff and The Stones.

Sat. Night Fever is also WAY up there as is Grease, just so happy and fun and who has never ever ever danced wildly to each, esp. in private

There are many more, mostly listed above, but these are additional ones

Oh I totally agree. It's a rare occasion indeed when my favorite song on an album is also one of the singles. (Discounting many recent artists, who seem to take the only two or three decent songs on their album and release them as singles, thus fooling the public into believing that the rest of the album might be of the same caliber... but I digress).

With older artists, I buy greatest hits and best of packages initially just to get a sample of what the artist's music is like. If I decide to look further into their music, I'll choose my favorite of the tunes on the compilation and start with the album that my favorite song came from.

I've never paid attention to the statement or feeling that an album tries to put across (possibly attributable to my rather short attention span). I always think of artists' work in terms of the strengths of individual songs. So once I've made the step forward into purchasing the actual albums, I'll extract my favorite tunes from each one and create my own personal compilation, and that's what I actually listen to.

H'okay. This is off the top of my head. No order..

Patti Smith - Horses
Siouxsie & the Banshees - The Scream
FM - Tusk
The Clash - London Calling
Blondie - Plastic Letters
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers self titled
The Kinks - Lola vs. Powerman & the Money Go-Round (I stole the record from my parents' collection - have heard all but two songs)
Carole King - Tapestry
Lou Reed - Transformer

I'm forgetting lots of albums.. has to be the heat. -_-

Oh don't worry. I had some biggies missing from my top 10.

Heh I just found a definition of muso in an online dictionary. I forgot it was a derogatory term for musicians too.

http://www.allwords.com/word-muso.html

muso
noun musos

slang:
(Brit)
1. derog
A pop or rock musician who concentrates too much on technique.
(especially Austral)
2. A musician or music enthusiast.

So that would fit all those confoundedly bad progrock bands, like Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Rush, etc.

Thanks david, in the meantime I found out that it was the wild heart-tour. Oddly enough in the fragment I read it says that he played on the tour AND the album....but i can't find him in the credits...

me too.

alot slipped through. on the other hand, having read your list, I thought of not copying too much and make another top ten list. I mean my list is without GP/Grievous Angel. That is ofcourse not exactly true. I can make 12 different top ten lists in two days that I truely can live with as my top ten of that moment.

Oh and having read the definition of MUSO, it does not really match with me. Nor with John Cusack and Jack Black in Hi Fidelity. Bugger. Love the word.

Hmm, Sharon, but so were these singles. Those songs were popular AND a perfect indiction of their best work. Both songs deeply represent the core of the album and therefore it maybe is still a miracle that they WERE hits. But they definately were....

No, you're right. I was struggling to think of an example. I just meant that album only had two hits, but really every song on there is fantastic!

No, you are a muso, you're a proper music enthusiast.
It's a musician OR a music enthusiast.

I love the bit in High Fidelity where he's rearranging his record collection and he produces the white Fleetwood Mac album and talks about Landslide!
