If the Secret Service allows him to go out without a vest they are not doing their job. There's no way he's not wearing a vest.

Scotties in general do not really like anyone but their owners (and even then the owner is the ape with the food ) - though they may be friendly to others for awhile. That is where the in general snob desciption fits in.

What you are talking about is the terrier bravada or spirit - all terriers should have this. TO relate it to FM, Yorkies really have it - there is an interview where Stevie talks about her Yorkie thinking he is a German Shepherd on patrol

I agree - it is the worst kept secret that the Pres. almost always wears one in public, esp. since Regean got shot. I suppose he could refuse, but W is HATED so much more by so many more than any Pres. I remember. So, I am sure he wears one. But that was not what that appeared to be. That was some kind of box with a wire.

I can tell you personally, that suits from that store and other similar stores like Oxford, Brioni, Hickey-Freeman, etc. do not have any line like that because I have them - granted, I cannot get them across my gut, but I still have them as a reminder

I've been around a lot of BPV's in my day (I worked around cops for several years) and they fit high up in the back-they do not cut across the back like that. I also worked in TV for 10 years and I'm here to tell you that what that bump look like to me is the microphone/transmitter things newspeople wear when they're on the air so they can get directions from their director in the production booth.

Ok, that is pretty shady. I'm curious to see them explain that away .

Perhaps Kerry should make his first statement at tomorrow night's debate to insist that Bush remove his jacket, lift his tie, and clean out his ears to prove to everyone that he's not wired.

That puts Bush in a Catch-22 -- if he's wired, he proven to be a cheat. If he's not (because he decided not to wear it to avoid any more embarrassing photos), he'll stumble all over his upper lip like in the first debate.

We assume Kerry is not wired as well I would put NOTHING past these two.

But, I agree - they both should have to be frisked before entering.

I thought this was interesting and Leno's comments are funny!!!!

Trail Tales: Bush's Pompom Days

Wednesday, October 13, 2004

Election Day is 20 days away. The third and last presidential debate takes place Wednesday in Tempe, Ariz.

Edwards Knocks Bush's Pompom Days

Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., (search) has a theory about what was hidden underneath an unusual wrinkle that appeared on the back of President Bush's (search) suit jacket during his first debate with John Kerry.

"I think it was his battery," a grinning Edwards told Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" Tuesday.

"I think tomorrow, before the debate, John Kerry ought to pat him down," Edwards said, referring to the final Bush-Kerry match up, scheduled for Wednesday in Arizona.

Making his second appearance on the comedian's stage this year, the Democratic vice presidential nominee was in turns silly and serious while chatting about issues from Iraq to chubby Secret Service (search) agents.

Leno asked Edwards if he could beat the president in a foot race.

Edwards, who said he jogged about five miles Tuesday, reminded the audience he played football as a student; Bush was on a cheering squad.

"[Bush] was on the side, with his pompoms," Edwards said. "I don't know, can you run fast with those cheerleading outfits on?"

During the first debate between the presidential candidates, a camera glimpsed what looked like a rectangular lump between Bush's shoulder blades. Bush's campaign aides have laughed off rampant Internet speculation that the president was wired to get help from advisers.

— The Associated Press

More Charges of Election-Related Violence

Based on reports from both sides, campaigning can be dangerous business. On Tuesday, the Kerry campaign came out with a list of 12 incidents of vandalism or other crimes against Kerry supporters and offices.

The Democratic National Committee (search) and Kerry campaign reported three of their own in Arizona, Florida and Nevada. The other nine incidents were reported by the press in Florida, Lousiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

Among the incidents, DNC and Kerry staff said five people in Pensacola, Fla. reported to the campaign that they had bricks thrown into their windows of their cars. In Phoenix, a glass door to the office was shattered and the place turned upside down. In September, computers, CD-ROMs and palm pilots were stolen from Kerry's campaign office in Las Vegas.

The press reports included incidents of spray painting on Kerry property, broken windows and light bulbs, burnt and torn-down signs in support of Kerry-Edwards and stolen laptops.

The list comes one day after the chairman of the Bush-Cheney campaign had written a letter to the president of the AFL-CIO (search) complaining that the union's protesters have participated in acts of violence and creating an "intimidating atmosphere" for Bush campaign staffers and supporters.

A number of other incidents, not related directly to the union, were also described in the letter. They included rocks thrown through windows, laptops stolen and even shots fired at the door of an office in Knoxville, Tenn. The shooting took place very early in the morning when the office was empty. No one was hurt.

— FOX News' Steve Brown contributed to this report.

Poll Watch

National

Kerry comes out on top of a new CBS poll, 48 percent to Bush’s 45 percent. Independent Ralph Nader takes 2 percent in the survey of 760 likely voters. The margin of error is plus-or-minus 3.6 percent.
Pennsylvania

Battleground alert. Kerry up 49 percent to Bush’s 47 percent in the Quinnipiac University poll of 1,347 likely voters. This compares to a 49-46 percent Kerry lead among likely voters in a Sept. 28 poll.

Ad Wars

Ad: ‘Complicated Plan’
Sponsor: Bush-Cheney campaign

VOICE OVER: John Kerry and liberals in Congress have a health care plan for you. A big-government take over. 1.5 trillion dollars. Rationing. Less access. Fewer choices. Long waits. And Washington bureaucrats — not your doctor — make final decisions on your health. So if you need treatment all you have to do is... You get the picture. John Kerry and liberals in Congress. Big government-run healthcare.

PRESIDENT BUSH: I'm George W. Bush and I approve this message.

Ad: ‘RX Drugs’
Sponsor: Kerry-Edwards Campaign

JOHN KERRY: For the last four years, one man has stood between America and lower cost prescription drugs. George Bush. As President, I'll fight to allow Americans to import lower cost prescription drugs from Canada. And I'll make it legal for Medicare to make bulk purchases, guaranteeing a better price for Americans. We can have lower cost prescription drugs in America. All it takes is a president who will fight to make it happen. I'm John Kerry and I approve this message.

Ad: ‘Your Doctor’
Sponsor: Bush-Cheney campaign

VOICE OVER: John Kerry and liberals in Congress have a health care plan. It includes the IRS, Treasury Department, and several massive new government agencies. Your doctor? In here somewhere, but not in charge. This 1.5 trillion dollar government program puts bureaucrats, not your doctor... in charge of your health care decisions. One more reason we can't risk the liberals in Congress and John Kerry.

PRESIDENT BUSH: I'm George W. Bush and I approve this message.

Funny Files

"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno"

"The election is just three weeks away from today. Think about it. Over a hundred million Americans will go to the polls and almost half of that number will have their votes counted. That is real progress."

"I read today in the Times that John Kerry has now received the endorsement from the National Marijuana Party. Well, good luck getting those people out to the polls."

"Ralph Nader has conceded that he won't win a single state in the election. You think it was tough on Nader to make that announcement? You should have seen his supporter."

"President Bush practicing hard for this one. All day long he's been walking around saying to himself, 'Internet, Internet."'

"President Bush apparently had a hard time getting past reporters and leaving the auditorium in St. Louis last week at the last debate. How amazing is that? Bush not having an exit strategy. That's amazing."

"This is interesting. According to a survey by the premier dating service for busy professionals, 49 percent of single women said they would rather go on a date with Bush, 33 percent with Kerry and 15 percent with Nader. I don't know, women, are any of these guys really dream dates? With Ralph Nader you have to pay, with John Kerry he keeps asking how much money you have, and with George Bush, halfway through the date he starts choking on a pretzel."

"A lot of talk in political circles now about amending the U.S. constitution so people born in other countries can run for president. Apparently, this is part of President Bush's plan to outsource the presidency."

"Late Late Show with David Alan Grier"

"On health care reform, the president says Kerry proves he's against good medical care by running with a trial lawyer. Bush shows he's for it by running with a patient."

FOX News’ Corbett Riner contributed to this report.

Did y'all know too that the Bush campaign folks insisted in their original 32-page debate agreement that there could be NO shots taken which would show the candidate's backs? But the networks refused to go along with that--while the campaign's might have agreed on the debate rules and the camera shots, the networks did NOT sign onto that and as a result, that's how those shots got out there in the first place. But it does make you wonder--why is it that the Bush campaign was so insistent on no shots being taken of Bush's back?

I mean, as a woman, I can tell you that I don't want someone getting a shot of my ass, since it's bigger than I would like it to be, but you know--these guys had on suit jackets which hide a guy's butt pretty well. I can't think that Bush was worried about how big his hips would look on the air or anything--so what was he worried about?????????

He may well be wearing one, but a vest will not make that kind of bump on his back. And if the WH wants to say he isn't wearing one, it just lends more credence to the belief that it was a receiver.

Exactly. And Kerry was wearing a vest, too. But no BPV will look like that under a jacket.

The only thing keeping me from being 100% sure (as opposed to 99.99% ) is that why would the WH pick such a large one? Wouldn't they have access to far smaller ones and certainly the CIA, FBI, etc. have tiny ones. That just does not make sense to me. But, I think it is some type of device and his stammering lends creedence to someone talking in his ear while he is trying to talk.

Interestingly, where was this person? If they were watching on t.v., there is almost always a delay of one or two seconds. So, that would not really work. They would have to be watching it live

Kerry doesn't need to wear a wire. You've been watching Fox too much again, I can tell.

It was not a mic. I love it when people try to put down the president by coming up with outlandish, liberal accusations. It rescinds the validity of your opinion. I don't think he would have made it on the stage with a "wire". That's just what I think.

PS..GO KERRY!
