Not at all. They are certainly asses, but not ignorant. They said no to the project for clearly stated reasons, not for bad assumptions and stereotypes. Did they make the right decision? No, they made themselves look like fools. But they didn't say no because they thought that Stevie might be a supporter of trench-coat mafias. I believe they had problems with the script because of some of the gay themes and some of the violence, not goths who like to shoot up schools.

And using your argument that she shouldn't be involved with this project for fear of perpetuating the belief that her fans are effeminate males, why would her songs be used and specially recorded for a movie about witches? After all, that's the last thing Stevie's management and her fans want her to be called...

Rock on, Homer! I think we should have more militants in the FM community!

Well please enlighten me then. And you don't have to get nasty about it. I don't know if this hits close to home for you or what...

I've never come across that in the states.

It may be a stereotype, but it isn't as unfair and hurtful as the stereotype about goths tha was posted. In all honesty, it's a stupid belief and it hurts no one, unless they are homophobic, which is what comes across when you say he thought he was going to get his ass kicked; it's as if it bothered you when it shouldn't have.

I like Judy Garland but I'm not gay. Should I be bothered that some may think I am? No, I should worry about more important things and not such trivial ridiculousness.

I don't believe I was being nasty. Your stereotype of goths could be considered nasty and ignorant. Do you know any?

Christopher--

I think you know full well that what you said was a stereotype that others don't share. I think you know full well that goths aren't kids who wear trenchcoats and shoot up schools. I think you know what you said was wrong and you're trying to justify it by playing the ignorant card.

Were those Colombine kids goths? When I think of goths I think of Morrissy (sp?) and Joy Division and even Nine Inch Nails. Physically, I think of goths as doing that white face, heavy black eye make-up thing. Emotionally I always characterize them as sensitive thoughtful types. Met a woman in college wearing the all black thing and someone asked her what was up with that. She replied, "I'm in mourning for the world." To me, that's goth.

No, they weren't. They were certainly weird, though.

And that's pretty much my understanding of goths.

I actually do know one person who one might consider gothic and she is the most annoying, self centered, laugh at her own jokes, "look at me, I'm so smart", unfunny girl in the United States. And this has nothing to do with her clothes. Maybe since she is the only gothic person I know, it has made me think that all gothics are like this, which obviously is not true.

Now THAT is what I call ignorance: gay men and sports bars don't mix!!!

Seriously, though, this homophobia and gothophobia thing is just SO sad!

So I'm guessing she doesn't wear a trench coat or pack a shotgun...

I am sorry and you are right, trying to justify what I said is not getting me anywhere. I am sorry to everyone who I have offended. But please stop ganging up on me! I can't take this, which I know is silly since this is just a message board, but I love this board and don't want everyone hating me here.

I am sure Stevie's people get approached for many different projects about or related to her. This just happens to be one of the projects that actually got made.

I kind of think it was a financial thing as this movie appears to have been made with a small budget. I mean (right or wrong) no big star associates their one maketable commodity unless the cash is paid. For example, how many times do you suppose Madonna's people or Diana Ross' or La Streisand's people get approached for stories similar to this.

Personally, I think her management compancy should have let her stuff be used. If anything it would have been more publicity. But, they never asked me
