Who knows.
We still don't know what really happened in regards to the Say You Will fallout between Lindsey & Stevie. It has been referenced in many interviews, but details have never surfaced.

The Destiny Rules documentary alludes to this drama, though. There was the whole issue of the double vs single album concepts. We all know Lindsey ended up losing that battle. He confessed after that matter was settled that it nearly broke up the entire project/band, but he lost his push for a double album. However, he got pretty much the same amount of songs he wanted, just on one disc. He had to eat royalties as a writer to do that, but he seemed fine with that decision.

So I'm guessing the fallout was a creative difference: was the album to be double or single; was the material to be experimental or safe; what was the tracking order; etc. I still wonder if Stevie was happy with how her songs have turned out on Say You Will, but she has never disparged them (that I know of). Lindsey has pointed to the album being disjointed, though.

Yes, sounded like when she was in Hawaii and he stayed in Los Angeles to finish off the album and the way that SYW thing is sequenced, it seems like it was his doing. Of course, Lindsey complained mightily about not going to Hawaii himself. Sounds like they had a big fight over the phone, about SYW and who knows what else.

However, those lyrics go. Words across the water. I can't believe what you are saying.

Maybe it's because I'm not a tortured artist, but none of the incidents that contributed to the Say You Will drama (that we've heard about) seem big enough to hold a grudge over 10 yrs later...

I loved what Lindsey did with Illume and Thrown Down but hated the lyrics. I still like Destiny Rules and Smile at You.

Probably something personal was part and parcel over the whole thing. They were mad over the recording process, but seemed to reconcile by the start of the SYW tour, but they were also mad after the tour ended too, so who knows what happened during the tour to shake things up and keep them frosty.

I hear the islands calling
I hear angry words
flying across the ocean
like some seabirds
never stopping
I feel my blood racing
Can't believe what you are saying
I used to love you so much
