If we are talking about only the ending then my top three fav's are 1.) You May Be The One {.....and we were Magic} plus the guitar cord at the end....luv it. 2.) Wild Sargasso Sea {....you may have forgotten that but you'll never forget that kiss} with that fading vocal and awesome drum beat-again just luv it so cocky. 3.) Italian Summer {...you just had to fall_____} ending with that epic note.

Fave endings:

"Moonlight" and "Annabel Lee"'s extended codas are both amazing.
"Italian Summer"'s 16 second long note of course.
"Cheaper Than Free"'s "your hand....your hand....your hand"
"and we were magic" from "You May Be The One"

Speaking of endings, has anyone noticed how the endings on these songs are actual endings unlike most Stevie Nicks songs which usually end with a fade of Stevie singing the best line in the goddamn song?! None of these songs except Ghosts Are Gone seem to have that fade ending, but rather proper and sometimes abrupt endings. I think for songs like Moonlight, Wide Sargasso Sea, Italian Summer, and You May Be The One it works amazingly. However, I find the endings to For What Its Worth, New Orleans, and Everybody Loves You seem kind of awkward IMO.

Me too. People seem to keep missing the structure of the song. Secret Love is actually one of the most tightly written songs Nicks has done:

1. "flare" opening (descending sound)
2. verse 1
3. chorus
4. verse 2
5. "flare" interlude (crescendo sound)
6. verse 2 continued
7. chorus repeated
8. coda ("you need some rest"...guitar..."you need some rest"...guitar..."my darling it's best")
9. "flare" closing (crescendo sound)

I like the "flare" sound closing the song because it's repeating the sound from the interlude, which ties the song together really nicely, and it's an echo of the opening descending "flare" sound.

Ha this is SO true! It drives me nuts that "Sara" fades out as she's singing the "all I ever wanted..." line, and even worse is "Beautiful Child" with the two Nicks "ahhhhhhhhhh" vocals while the lines "I'm not a child anymore, I'm tall enough to reach for the stars" are chanted. I LOVE that part of the song. When I had my old stereo and could record onto a tape and manipulate the recording level, I taped a version of "Beautiful Child" where I upped the volume at the end of the song. Wish I still had that tape! :P

Ditto for the "oooohhhhaahhhhhs" on the studio Silver Springs. You feel like you're missing out on something when it fades away during such a strong vocal!

I agree about obvious ones like Annabel Lee,Moonlight .and Wide Sargasso Sea .The one song where the ending is actually better than the rest of the song itself is the long fade out of Ghosts are Gone..classic.

Really? I think it's a total mood kill... I mean we have it building and building, those layers of soloing and heavy guitars, Stevie hitting those high notes, accumulating into... nothing

My favorite ending belongs to the album version of "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You." It's 'cosmic', 'eternal' and 'peaceful.'
