I noticed an instaneous differnece from my female friends, like they sudenly "got" me. Women who previously didn't seem to like me much, suddenly opened up and inlcded me. I think several of my friends who grew up in Calif had felt oppressed by the tyranny of blondness in Southern Calif. and a few of them admitted that they had trouble relating to me before. It made a little sad. there is no way for me to know if my attitude changed, and then my itneractions changed or not.

When the red faded, it left my hair an uninteresting shade of brown (not a pretty brown) so I made it more red - on and on until I had a sort oburgundy bright auburn purple shade that I really loved. I wore more makeup dressed up more, and became addicted to red, It was a lot of work to keep it up, and after 8 yearws of mixing Manic Panic,I finally let it grow out, and returned to my blonde, which is lighter than I remember (probably some white in there now) and I haven't noticed how people react to it, as I don't care anymore. Sometimnes, I miss that dramatic witchy color though. I should buy a new wig!
that's interesting.

I put henna on my hair once and it made it so brittle and fried. I may have done it wrong, but it was harsh on my hair.

Normally, I prefer brunette men...with a little olive tone to their skin... However, there is something very alluring about a natural blonde....the icy blue eyes and the frosty, almost white hair. Mmm mmm good. I don't know what it is, but when I'm out at bars, clubs, or with friends doing whatever, I am always comfortable meeting people - unless they're blonde. Then I zip up, blush, stumble over my words....it's pathetic, really. A hot blonde guy turns me into a bumbling fool. In that respect, I guess.....yes, blondes have more fun. They've got some kind of power granted to them by gerneral society.

But only real blondes.

Fake blondes? Gag. I can spot a bottle blonde from a mile away, and there is nothing appealing about it.

I have a love/hate relationship with my hair. I grew up having very light blonde hair; most of my peers were convinced I bleached it and they teased me about it some. I also felt like I had to work harder to be taken seriously by teachers, etc. Of course, it has darkened as I've gotten older, so I highlight it. I find now that people have a tendency to "baby" me. They will try to help me when I don't need any assistance. I don't know if that's due to my hair color, or what, but I suspect that it is. Having said all that, I think my hair is a part of me, and I don't think I'd ever change from being blonde. I have a few red highlights right now, and that's enough change for me.

I read a statistic somewhere that a small small percentage of the US are real blondes....around 10% or less.

I don't doubt that for one second. Both of my younger cousins are blonde...so blonde, it's almost white...one with brown eyes, one with blue. Mama and Daddy both have brown. The only people in my entire family with blue eyes are myself, my brother and my paternal grandmother (the mother of my aunt) - now, what are the chances my cousin could have blue eyes. Both of my parents have green.

and people change - my brother was born with blond hair like your cousins - yet, at around six years old, it darkened.

I had white hair and blue eyes up until Jr High/puberty. My eyes are bluish green now and my hair is dark brown.....just like my dad...his hair did the same thing.

I have a pretty fabulous time as a brunette. I don't think people look at me differently. Men don't seem to give a negative response to my lack of blonde hair and either do others I encounter I usually go lighter in the summer but it really doesn't make any difference.

I was a blonde up until.. 16, 17? And then it gradually darkened to some kind of unnamed brownish color. Boring. So I dye it honey blonde now because I think it looks better with my skin color.
Never noticed a different treatment, really. But I bet there's a higher percentage of blondes in this country

You know, I thought you were right and tried to find something to substantiate it with... and came across a funny fact on Wikipedia (that's the second time today I quote that site )

Fair hair is characteristic of the peoples of Northern Europe, particularly Scandinavia (very pale hair is often referred to as Nordic blond.). The true amounts and degree to which hair in this region is blonde has, however, been obfuscated by the large percentage of people making use of hair colour. Sweden, the largest and most populous of the Nordic countries, for example, has the highest percentage of both males and female who make use of hydrogen peroxide and related chemicals to change their natural hair colour to that of 'Nordic Blond/e'.

(I don't know if this goes for the Netherlands as well, btw)

What's your hair color and do you think it affects how much fun you have or how seriously you are taken?
My hair and eyes color is black, and I have a very white skin (typical existentialist features), people tend to believe at first I'm a very serious and a bit distant person. Hopefully their opinion changes when we start to speak.

I was born blonde, then it went red, then brownish red, all on its own. I'm now going prematurely gray (I'm only 28!) so I colour it back to the red I had when I was 6. Hence the name Red.
