I think the Make a Wish Foundation is fairly selective and would balk at a little girl wanting to meet a 57 year old rock star and suspect it was more the parent's wish.Maybe if her wish was to go to Disneyworld or meet Jessica Simpson they'd be inclined to help her out but this is too dubious and yes very tacky on the dad's part.

Well, it is possible that because of her parents' love of Stevie and Fleetwood Mac, she grew up loving her music too and genuinely wants to meet Stevie; you never know. How many parents on here have talked about their kids who adore Fleetwood Mac?! And I'm sure it's no accident--but that doesn't make it tacky or sleazy! Sorry, just playing Devil's Advocate--maybe he really is a jerk, but maybe he's not.

Here was my thought: If he had the $$$ to collect all that Stevie stuff? He no doubt had the money to go and see her live. I know the tickets are pricey, but damn, I know how much the memorabilla goes for too!

Well that's neither here nor there, because what reason would he have to not go see her live? None of us know the answer to that one. But that doesn't answer the question of whether it's truly his daughter's wish to meet Stevie, or only his. If he really wanted to meet Stevie and if your theory is true that he has plenty of money, why wouldn't he have gone to tons of shows to try to at least shake her hand? It doesn't make sense either way--jerk or super-nice guy.

Calm down, people. This man's daughter is dying. Perhaps you should ease up on the harsh judgments and have a little compassion.

He was probably asked, "Do you think you'll ever meet Stevie?" and answered honestly. I suppose he could have pretended not to care if he met Stevie, or added a bunch of disclaimers to ensure random people don't think he's a selfish jerk. I for one assume he cares for his daughter even if he doesn't say it after every statement. But I'm sure the hasty judgmental condemnations of people who don't even know him isn't going to be foremost on this poor man's mind as he watches his child die. How dare any of you imply that he's HAPPY that his child is dying because it enables him to meet Stevie. I'm appalled.

I agree, Nancy. I think he should at least be given the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure he doesn't carefully choose all of his words wondering if everyone's gonna think he's a selfish cad. The whole article sounds like it had the angle of "will this guy ever meet Stevie?" so maybe that's how it came off, but I don't think it's the most important thing in this guy's life.

I think you're lumping us all together and perhaps what you're describing is not what we all meant. I'm speaking for myself only here (since it's probably not a good thing for me to speak for the others) but I don't think that I was judging him and I certainly was not condemning him.

You told us to calm down but you seem to be more worked up about it than the other posters.

I need to put down my 'Family Guy' DVDs and back away from the TV, because that's the first thing I thought of, too!

Seriously though, I didn't get the impression that he was being opportunistic, or even that he came across as happy about how he was going to meet her.
He simply said, "I may meet her yet." He might have said it with a solemn tone in his voice or a tear rolling down his face, for all we know.

I guess it's all in perception.

You're right. I found the condemnation of this guy by many people highly upsetting. I can't imagine losing a child, and I can't believe so many people are so quick to judge him.

Well, of course I think you're right to find that upsetting. I don't blame you at all for that, as I shouldn't. It's just that sometimes you come in a thread and you say something to the effect of "why are you all saying this and this because it's unfair, etc." and it's unclear to whom you're referring so I usually assume you're referring to everyones' statements and behavior.

On a related note, I think that it's very possible that the article is coming off the way it is to many of us because of the writer, not the guy about whom the article's written. Like you said, he could've just been asked that question and he answered honestly, and then that part made its way into the article right next to the Make a Wish part. That may very well have been the decision of the writer and not his. Plus, the writer could've omitted parts of the interview that would've told us more about the whole thing, right? I just felt like throwing that out there for no one in particular.

Who implied that?

I don't like to point fingers and name names. I leave it to each person to decide whether or not what I said applies to them.

Okay, well then I'm going to assume that you're never referring to me.

Do you know what state this is from. Cause there is a Tifton, Georgia in Tift County. Just curious?

Brit, the display was in Georgia....about twenty minutes from Steph.

I think the point of the article was more about his memorabilia collection. Some of the sentiments posted were a bit harsh, IMHO..for all we know it could be the daughter's wish to meet Stevie. There are children who are fans of Stevie after being exposed to her through their parents. He simply made a statement that maybe at some point in his life he would meet Stevie. I heard nothing strange about that. I do think it is highly strange that the guy has never been to a show. Or taken his daughter to a show. (if that is possible) If he has the money to collect memorabilia, he has money for a concert ticket. I am sure he spends some time away from his daughter and a two hour concert would be no big deal. That is the odd part to me.

Hillary, I agree with what you said too. I have noticed the same thing.
