but since nothing about that show that was released was real (not the vocals, not the closeups, not the music), i don't look at Red Rocks as much of a special place or special show anymore...
The cocaine she was on was real....

It's possible, dear. She sounds like a man who just gargled with broken glass (and quickly polished it off with some Southern Comfort) before trying to record an audition tape for Night of A Thousand Stevie's.

There are two uncut versions out there. The first one is the one that everyone and their brother has and it's unlistenable. You can hardly hear her. The second one is an "upgraded" version that was just fixed up by elminating some of the audience noise and making her vocals louder; it's very listenable when compared to the other one and Edge is ****ing hysterical. She forgets the lyrics and stops singing for what seems like eons. 99% of what you hear on that video/DVD was re-recorded in the studio, just like the Welcome To My World radio show. She sounds like a bloody chipmunk on the released version.

there's a few professionally recorded tracks from that show available on one of those master reels that were on eBay awhile back: "I Need To Know" & "No Spoken Word"

I really, really, really want to go, but I should probably pay rent instead I take some solace in the fact that I have second row, dead center tickets for Minneapolis instead. Hopefully that will be a fantastic show and I'll forget all about Red Rocks...

That is hard to believe...since C & D is God awful! I always wondered why they invested the time and $ in doing a video during the RAL tour, since Stevie was her most "cracked out". It was probably a decision that was made long before she even hit the road. Even though much of it is fake, I still love the Red Rocks show, especially her Edge meet and greet, which is definitely real.

Ha ha I remember when I first got into Stevie and bought the Red Rocks DVD I watched it over and over and was so in love with it. Then a few months later I found out the whole cocaine thing and that most of it wasn't even real and I was crushed!!

They sound great to me. But everything on the '86 tour sounds great to me, bearing in mind that great doesn't necessarily mean technically impeccable or polished.

But "No Spoken Word" & "I Need to Know" from the retakes sure don't sound as if drugs had ruined the day to me. I never thought coke was much of an apparent problem for Stevie on the '86 tour, anyway. I just thought she was drinking too much & wound up looked bloated (alcohol gives some people a bloated countenance & a puffy demeanor).

I think Red Rocks (the one that was filmed, not the first one) was just an ordinary RAL show, anyway. I would have preferred they film & release one of the other awesome performances -- MSG or Los Angeles or even Pacific Amphitheatre with her feather headdress. Landover in early August could have been filmed, too.

The Alpine Valley show from, I believe, May is an awesome show, too. She got wilder as the show progressed and just exploded by the time Edge of Seventeen and Rhiannon rolled around.
