I don't think anything is.

Whenever I think of Clinton these days, all I can see is John Travolta with graying hair, sitting at a picnic table attacking a big plate of ribs.

He has admitted to the drunk driving:

The GOP nominee, who has made character a central plank of his campaign, spoke a day after he was forced to admit that at age 30 he had been arrested for drunk driving in Kennebunkport, Maine, pleaded guilty, paid a $150 fine and had his permission to drive suspended for 30 days.

Interestingly, Fox News broke the story - go figure.

I also think the D's were idiots to play this this way. I think the American public could have cared a less what he did 30 years ago.

I do not mind Clinton - I guess I am just comparing him to what we have now, which is the benchmark for horrid

Read my post again, I never said he didn't admit to the drunk driving.

I particularly love how they say he admitted to being arrested when he never admitted such a thing. He has continued to maintain that he paid a fine on the spot and was allowed to leave. If you can find ANY quote where he admits to being arrested or hauled off to jail, I'll pay you cash money. Because there are none.

http://www.realchange.org/bushjr.htm#drunk
11/3/2000

Bush: "I told the guy I had been drinking and what do I need to do? And he said, "Here's the fine." I paid the fine and did my duty...."
Reporter: "Governor, was there any legal proceeding of any kind? Or did you just -- "
Bush: "No. I pled -- you know, I said I was wrong and I ..." Reporter: "In court? "
Bush: No, there was no court. I went to the police station. I said, "I'm wrong."

(LIAR, READ THE COURT DOCUMENT)

http://www.dallasnews.com/latestnews...ush-new03.html
"Just after the governor's reelection in 1998, Slater pressed Bush about whether he had ever been arrested. 'He said, 'After 1968? No.'

Meet the Press, 11/21/99
Tim Russert: "If someone came to you and said, 'Governor, I'm sorry, I'm going to go public with some information.' What do you do?"
Bush: "If someone was willing to go public with information that was damaging, you'd have heard about it by now. You've had heard about it now. My background has been scrutinized by all kinds of reporters. Tim, we can talk about this all morning."

I fail to see the distinction between admiting the arrest and admiting the conviction?

From http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLI...1/02/bush.dui/ (emphasis supplied):

"I'm not proud of that. I made some mistakes. I occasionally drank too much, and I did that night. I learned my lesson." Bush said he was not jailed after the arrest. "I told the guy (the arresting officer) I had been drinking, what do I need to do? He said, 'here's the fine.' I paid the fine."

The arresting office confirms this I also think the "'here's the fine.' I paid the fine." thing could refer to I paid the fine later, etc., like you do a traffic ticket - but he could have paid it that night. But and in any event, this quote:

Quote:
He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge, paid a $150 fine and had his driving licence suspended for "a period of time".
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/1004736.stm indicates the matter was not swept under the rug - I mean if that happened, there would have been no payment of a fine and no suspension of his license

Interestingly, I do not know the procedure for DUI charges in 1976 in that town. Maybe arrest was not the norm. I am just thinking out loud.

It wasn't swept under the rug, he had to go to court.

I know - so I do not understand why you are saying he lied here?

Have you read his quotes?

"No, there was no court. I went to the police station. I said, "I'm wrong."

When asked whether he had been arrested, he said not after '68.

He had his license suspended for almost two years, too.

But the kicker is that he didn't fess up, as demonstrated by lying about going never going to court. He was caught and continued to lie, that's the point.

Do we know he acutually appeared in court. He plead guilty to a misdemeanor - an actual court appearance could not have been required
