I am looking forward to Narnia though as I loved it as well.

I am pleased with the way LOTR turned out. I've been reading the books on/off since I was in my teens. The only thing I was really displeased about was that they cut Saruman (Christopher Lee) out of Return of the King...but they put it back in on the extended cut, so thats ok.

I'm pleased for the most part, but there's a few thing that really annoyed me.

Elves at Helm's Deep- WTF?? This completely underminds the Last Alliance between elves and men at Mount Doom.

Changing Faramir's character

Making Gimli the comic relief

Cutting out Tom Bombadil, Prince Imrahil, & Elrond's sons

Not having the Scouring of the Shire

All of those could have been added - along with the Ents ending the battle of Helm's Deep - but the battle scenes were sooooo long that they had to cut something. I wish they would have shot it and then included it in the extended version DVD, off of which they made billions alone.

Of course! I saw the whole series, remember? You look hot. But again, if I'm not going to be getting any, I don't stare too long.

All things must end darling. Also, I am sure my simple budget would horrify most people anyway

P.S. I always have jack for your cocktails dear

Well, as long as you have a stash...
Yes, I'm sure your budget would horrify me - but that's not the point. It's still your budget.

And my Narnia related point is: I always liked the Magicians Nephew the best, too. It's sad if they start after that. In fact, they should just make that the whole movie, if there is going to be one.

I read all 7 of the Chronicles when I was a kid and enjoyed them then although I'm currently no fan of C.S. Lewis in general.I saw the 4 minute clip and production wise it does not appear to be on a par with the LOTR films .Maybe if Peter Jackson had directed it. To put my two cents into the other debate in this thread I did not get at all that Amber was saying no book should be made into a film ..just the Narnia books, and judging from the clip I tend to agree with that statement.Something about it just seems a bit cheesy.

Ironically, C.S Lewis had stated that the Chronicles of Narnia were NOT Christian stories. (Don't shoot the messenger I am just quoting Lewis) Because of some of his past writings, people assumed they were. Yes, it can be easy to interpret underlying Christian themes in them, (you can do that with Star Wars too) but the overlying theme is "otherworldly". Many people who are now pagan attibute the Chronicles as their first "eye opening" reading experince as a child.

John Milton's work Paradise Lost (and Regained) was a slam on the Church of England (so was his work: Doctine of Divorce). Although Milton had to write it in a tone supporting Christianity so as to not end up in jail. There are people who still believe those books to be Christian.

Hey PaleShadow:

I'm not saying 5th grades can't have a good reading comp level, but to actually understand the underlying themes in those books, isn't possible at a fifth grade level, no mater how many "adult like" things the kids are doing, ones mind just doesn't work at that particular level for most kids...

And your idea of kids in 5th grade doing sex, drugs etc is a little exagerated and an extreme case unless I am missing the sarcasm here...

:

Just goes to show you how great of a body of work the Chronicles are. You can enjoy them when you're young, and then appreciate them more when you're older.

mylittledemon: I totally agree with you on that, esp for Narina and several other kids books.

Side note: earlier and what paleshadow quoted me on was books that i felt were inappropriate for kids, not so much books that kids should read and enjoy as kids and then read and understand as adults...Alot of books were written as politically masked messages b/c their writters couldn't have written the grown up book and not been arrested by the government (Neverending Story comes to mind), those I'm cool with kids reading, but others like Dickens, Stienback and Mocking Bird I feel need to be read at a more mature level then 5th grade.

The NeverEnding Story is AWESOME. I love that book. Especially the chapter with Grograman. What a great, great story. Someone should opt that for a movie remake, and really do it some justice.

I agree!!!!!

Though I liked the movie for what it was, which was not nearly as good.
