Default Stevie on the BBC again

I've found two more interviews with Stevie on the BBC (but haven't listened to them yet).

The first was broadcast on 9th July on BBC Radio Scotland. Skip to 1:16.30 for the interview which lasts until 1:31.26.

The second was broadcast on 11th July on BBC Radio 2 on the Steve Wright show. The interview starts at 1:35.11 which lasts until 1:47.33.

Such a good interview with Stevie sounding so positive. And a huge thank you to you for letting me know where to start and end in this interview! I haven't listened to the 2nd one yet, but I will when I have the time.

Love, Viv

What I loved about this interview is when Stevie talked about how embarassed she is/was listening to live FM recordings from the past and realizing how her singing was so out of tune.

Actually she said Fleetwood Mac sang out of tune. I was thinking about this last night and today and I realized that in all those old recordings there were many times when Stevie sang badly but I can't find a single recording where Lindsey or Christine sang out of tune. In fact those two often carried the show when Stevie wasn't able to carry her own.

In all the times I've seen Stevie solo there were many shows where her singing was offkey. I agree with her when she says her voice has improved since The Dance. Singing lessons have def. improved the quality and tone of her voice. Also I got a kick out of Stevie saying The dance was from 1998. This woman never gets her dates right.

That reminds me of Lindsey saying that he remembers playing out of tune on purpose, once when he was trying to rile the others up.

I guess she fiddles constantly with her little box to make sure she stays in tune. Without the pocketbox: anarchy!

Go to YouTube and watch the performance of 'Blue Letter' from Largo, 1975. Christine's harmony is indescribably bad. And Stevie's mic seems to be turned off!

I've been interviewed on the radio by this woman, Janice Forsyth, too! She's really good. And that makes me one degree of separation from Steves, too!!

Re: out of tune
You guys, it's rock & roll! It's supposed to be out of tune: that symbolizes the excess & recklessness of the strutting, self-enraptured rock superstar, the jet-setting Ziggy Stardust with his entourage & his drugs & his bleary-eyed burning through his immense financial fortune.

Whaddya expect? The tonal & rhythmic precision of a Bach fugue?

When bands in the '70s started to play with that sort of approach -- bands like Styx & Boston & Kansas -- the effect was ludicrous.

Default ...

I've heard plenty of old live cuts where they were ALL off key. In some of those, Christine just sounds like she is randomly moaning... And Lindsey's voice always cracked... Stevie was... well... all over the place, but made up with true passion...
