I don't know if we'll ever really know since no credits were listed on the cassette single sleeve, but my suspicion is that the RAL versions are the ones that sound unfinished - listed as #1 through #4 (ending with "In spite of what you say, I really wanted you..." and the others similar to it).

They sound very different from the version we ended up with on the Blue Denim cassette...and, the synthy productions sounds like Rupert Hine to me.

Ultimately, I'll always consider it a Rock A Little outtake until proven otherwise, mostly just because I like the idea of it being on an album with other RAL outtakes from the same period. I mean, damn, it sounds awesome paired with Running Through The Garden, Love Is Like A River and Thousand Days.

Yep - I have it now as well. Last night, you could not even get the link to download...it displayed an error on the mediafire page.

This is great...thanks to all who helped to get these to us!

The biggest indicator to me that the "Blue Denim" b-side was recorded mid-80s is the percussion. Those synthesized Linn drums (a la Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero") are very prominent on this version. This effect was all the rage in the 1984-1985 time frame, but had become passe by the end of the decade. There's nothing from the TOSOTM era with a synth drum track like this (which would have sounded very outdated in 1989). Also, while her vocal isn't as ragged as some of the RAL album tracks, it sounds similar to "No Spoken Word" or "Battle Of The Dragon". These factors lead me to believe that it is in fact a RAL outtake.

I do suspect, as others have noted, that they pulled this version by mistake for the "Blue Denim" cassingle and actually meant to use the SA-era version. Certainly the production style sounded very 80s/outdated in 1994.

Added the Rehearsal 1994 songs if they weren't already posted yet. Sharon sings lead, but it's very cool to hear "what might have been" on a few songs...

All of the takes of "Mirror, Mirror" that sound like the b-side have been in fans' hands since 1985, including the b-side. The friend who gave me copies of all of them in May 1994 (before the "Blue Denim" single was even released) had had all of them since Early 1985. They are all 1984 recordings. David even dissected the musical clues on here as well (in all his musical knowledge). In November 1984, Ginny Kamano listed "Mirror, Mirror" as the first single to be released from Rock A Little, with the single out in December 1984 and the Rock A Little album out in January 1985 (Ginny never ever referred to a Mirror, Mirror-entitled album, always calling it Rock A Little. Stevie only ever mentioned the supposed Mirror, Mirror album one time~ in 1989).

The differently-arranged version that fades out, comes back in, with different lyrics? Not sure if that's from then or OSOTM, since Stevie mentions attempting to resurrect it again in 1989.

Thanks for the clarification, Mike.

I really hope that someday we get to hear the entirety of this version!

LWTG would have sounded SO effing great "live". I remember being absolutely shocked when I saw Stevie during the OSOTM tour in 89' and this song wasn't played. I thought for sure it would've been a no brainer & take the space of "No Spoken Word" as her new rocker on that tour?! After all, LWTG received plenty of radio play in Denver & other cities across the US on AOR FM station's the summer of 89' just as NSW did in 85'. And charted pretty high (Top 10) on Billboards Rock chart.

And now to find it was also rehearsed for potential inclusion on the SA tour, and yet still not performed ARGggggg!! From this rehearsal tape, it sounds like it would have been FANTASTIC. I've always loved the harmonies from the girls on this song -LWTG has such a powerful catchy & bratty chorus!

Everything you said LOL. It sounds like it would have been a killer opener. You see, it just goes to show Stevie has it in her to branch out and be a bit more daring but sadly, a lot of the time the end results end up the same ole same ole. I really am knocked out how great LWTG and DTBTIC sound live. I may end up going to see Stevie after all. My on again off again love for her wont’ end I’m sure but it is moments like this that reaffirm why I do love her in the end.

Default "Mirror, Mirror" (1992 version) - enhanced

Hi there, everybody!

I am pleased to present you guys with an "enhanced" version of the 1992 outtake of "Mirror, Mirror". The track has been speed-adjusted as well. I think this one turned out quite well since the source was so well preserved, so hope you guys will enjoy it!

Totally concur. I could not understand her skipping it on the OSOTM tour except for now maybe it was the Klonopin that made that decision. But you're right, under normal circumstances, No Spoken Word would have been replaced by this song. But it still surprises me when she plays songs from an album AFTER the tour to support that album is over. I was surprised they rehearsed Two Kinds of Love as well but not Listen To The Rain?

weird lol
