FWIW has a nice, safe sound & lyrics that are sad & look at her past. IMO she should release something edgy to get noticed. (The song "In Your Dreams" is really good & sounds radio-friendly, but it sounds way too familiar to wow anybody). I think she should release FWIW to country but also "Wide Sargasso Sea" to other formats. As I've mentioned, neither of these songs has Stevie's best vocals, but somehow they still work.
There are people who love Landslide-y Stevie, & FWIW will please them. There are those who like witchy/Gold Dust Stevie, & "Moonlight" should please them in the fall, I expect. And then there are those who want to hear a good rock song & haven't heard that from Stevie in years - to say nothing of her singing about sex - and people will be pleasantly surprised to hear that from 63-year-old Stevie on WSS, I think. WSS could work very well if they cut out the 1st several bars (most of the slow part) & start with "Even though they were so in love..." not long before the guitar kicks in. Start at :38 and it sounds more radio-friendly, I think. http://youtu.be/yDRyt6qolf4 - Jake

And I think your onto something about WSS. If they edited out the beginning acoustic verse and started the song with some creative edits into the 2nd verse "So paradise found was not paradise to him" - I can see this song being single -worthy and not just an incredible album track. Though the title is ambiguous to those unfamiliar with the book or movies (which are obscure enough) I'm happy that FWIW is the 2nd single. I just hope "they" compile a video, even if it's just for YouTube, from some of the footage from her documentary. |

Wow...never heard about that one (Guess the lyrics are pretty true!)
Between this track and the one about Rupert Hine, we're seeing a lot more than just the normal Lindsey/Mick/Joe triumverate! |

I really think Italian Summer could have some potential as a single. The song is epic, Stevie sounds terrific and it's certaintly accessible but different enough to stand out from everything else out there. It truly sounds to me like a classic. I think if this song got some momentum a lot of people would fall in love with it. It's just got that spark...

Great news. I think it's the strongest song on the album.
I love the way it was written - in a very Jimmy Webb kind of way. For What It's Worth will stand right up there next to Dreams and Landslide - easily one of the strongest songs she's written since the Bella Donna/Wild Heart/Mirage years. And the vocal and harmony is classic Stevie/Fleetwood Mac. I hope it gets a lot of airplay - she deserves it. |

For What It's Worth wasn't one of the songs eight songs on the January production slate. Much like the video Cheaper Than Free, a clip could be compiled from documentary footage and then treated with some post production digital augmentation.

So my take on that is that she is listening to the critics because a bunch of them singled that song out. I think they singled it out because it was heartfealt and very landslidey. It seemed to be the most personal song on the album. I think that there are a lot more catchier songs on the album. If she didn't plan on making a video for it, then I doubt she originally planned to release it. I like the song and wish good luck but wish she would chosen something else.

Very possibly Wide Sargasso Sea. It's obviously about the book as well, but it's a good bet that, as she did with Twilight, she transposed her own story onto this one. Mick is a valid candidate, but Rupert seems the better fit from what we know of their relationship (an Englishman, burned house=Rooms on Fire, "Even though they were so in love, they drew a line in the sand," "After that no words were spoken about the two of them").

I don't care for it much, really. It's not my least favorite (Cheaper Than Free gets that honor, and GAG is somewhere in the realm of IS for me) but I don't find myself listening to it unless I'm listening to the album all the way through.
