Nicks Making Up For Lost Time...
If she had her way, Stevie Nicks wouldn’t have let a decade go by between solo albums.

‘In Your Dreams’ was released last month, her first solo album in 10 years

The singer and songwriter, best known for her work with Fleetwood Mac, released In Your Dreams in May, 10 years after her last solo album, Trouble in Shangri-La. She was certainly busy in between, most notably with a new album and several tours with Fleetwood Mac, but Nicks feels that she easily could have made some new music several years ago.

“When I came off the road with Fleetwood Mac in 2005,” she says, speaking by telephone from her Los Angeles home, “I was definitely ready to do a record. But the powers that be, the people that surrounded me, pretty much said, ‘Don’t bother. It’s not a good time. The music business is in a terrible place. There’s no money, and the Internet piracy is taking over. Everybody’s just stealing records and music.’

“I didn’t know what to say,” the 63-year-old admits, “because I’m not a computer person and I don’t have a computer and I don’t Facebook or Spaceface or Myplace or whatever. I don’t do all that. So I just kind of said, ‘OK.’

“If I hadn’t have been so exhausted from 135 shows, I might have fought back on that a little, but I just said, ‘OK.”’

Thank you for that article. I found myself saying, "there you go again, Stevie."

I found myself getting a little steamed at Stevie in placing the blame on the "powers that be." She's used that term several times now in interviews, and when some have tried to pin her down on WHO that power was, she became evasive. That put me on the scent. I remembered being very angry at Stevie a few years ago about some of the comments she made about her hard-core fans. (we can get angry at Stevie and still be fans, trust me) I decided to poke around a bit to find exactly what it was that Stevie said in 2008 that got "my goat" and I located it:

skimming through the interview, it was this comment that raised my hackles:

Q. When can we expect the next Stevie Nicks studio project?

A. I don't know. That's why I'm doing more greatest hits and going back in the vaults and finding cool stuff that might bring people out to Borders and Starbucks to buy a record. I can do a solo record, but what will happen is 1,000 hard-core fans will buy it and push the send button and send it to 5 million others. That makes me wonder, why bother? People are stealing our songs.

There were no POWERS THAT BE. It was Stevie's decision to stop recording. I remember being incensed at the comment she made regarding: 1,000 hard-core fans would buy it and give it away to 5 million others. SHE decided "why bother, people are stealing our songs." Maybe I'm quibbling, but I am frankly annoyed at Stevie blaming "the powers that be." Take some ownership for your decisions, woman. You're 63 years old. [/rant]
