Excellent quality video & audio!

I haven't grown fond of the song itself, but what Lindsey is doing instrumentally is what I'd call an octave ostinato. That's probably why it reminds people of live performances of "The Chain."

What a great concert many of you got to experience. I can't wait for Lindsay to return from the Bahamas so I can hear her excitement.

These "Soldier's Angel" threads aren't merged yet???

I was just watching The Perfect Neighbor on my DVR, recorded from Lifetime this morning, and the Coming Home commercial came on, and Stevie's voice is the very first thing you hear in the ad!

The song goes great with the commercial for the season finale of that show. Immediately, I set my DVR to record it Sunday night!

Hopefully, there will be a notation somewhere that the song playing is Stevie's from her new album, In Your Dreams, in case some people hear it and want to get it. I've certainly bought several songs from iTunes that were in commercials or TV shows that I really liked. One example is "Remind Me" by Royksopp from the Geiko commercial in 2006. Oh, and Dinah Washington's "Relax Max" from the Double Tree ads from 2007. There's money they got from me that way. I read that Royksopp made more money off downloads based on that Geiko commercial than they did on the licensing fee and from when they originally released it in 2004.

This could at least get Stevie some recognition.

Definetly the live version is better than the recording on In Your Dreams they should have recorded it live like in an empty thearte just like that it would have been awesome on the album for some reason the album versions sounds like something is missing in the song but love the song still, I see and hear it live like that on her birthday love the song even more.

Yes, there's something about the way Lindsey's voice is mixed on the album version that doesn't sound quite right to my ears. I know they recorded it live but something still sounds a bit off - it's like his voice is coming from two different places, if that makes sense.

I actually think it's supposed to be all discordant (if that's the word)...and, somewhat harsh-sounding. Goes with the message, really.
I was probably most disappointed with this song, because I had been looking forward to this BuckinghamNicks thing but...it's grown on me. I don't fast forward it but I do think it almost takes you out of IYD and the world it creates. But, I guess that was sort of intentional, too.
It's interesting. And it might (might being the very operative word here) be a good move because it's unique and has a strong, important message.

I think you are hearing him singing harmony with himself. So, technically his vocals are coming from two different places.

But there's only ever two-part harmony on the song (Stevie's melody line, and then his harmony). The multiple Lindsey's coming from different directions are singing the same exact notes, so essentially he's just doubling the one part...

I feel the need to reiterate that this is one of my favorite songs on the album. I do much prefer the live version though because, oddly enough, it sounds more polished than the recorded one.

That description reminds me of the part of "My Heart" when Stevie's voice is coming from one speaker and then the other. It's almost like she's taking turns whispering into one of my ears and then the next. It's a very nice effect.

Yes, I was laughing at Stevie when she discussed the BN ominousity before I heard Soldier's Angel, but they did go for an ominous, troubling sound with the musical arrangement. Surprising and impressive choice. Michele

I just finished watching The Perfect Wife (2000, starring still yummy Perry King!) and the commercial with "Soldier's Angel" was on six times during that 2-hour movie.

Now, I'm an hour into The Perfect Teacher (2010) starring the even-more-PERFECT-than-when-he-was-on-Baywatch David Charvet, and "Soldier's Angel" has been on twice (this is Lifetime's The Perfect Monday event!).

I think that's pretty good publicity for Stevie and "Soldier's Angel" (and In Your Dreams!).

Last edited by mikebise; 05-30-2011 at 07:58 PM.. Reason: Is there a Stevie lyric with "Perfect" in it? The Perfect Lamp?

The traditional concept of a single was pretty much killed off when iTunes emerged.

It's not as important anymore to designate certain songs as singles, because social media does that, as some album tracks become more popular, and songs can go viral without any influence from the artist or record company.

The more I hear Soldier's Angel, the more I like it. It's not radio-friendly, and it's not supposed to be.
Like it or not, the song has impact: no one is no ambivalent about. And that's why it's getting media traction. Stevie's album, as a whole, will benefit from it.

Really? I hear him singing a lower part in the chorus after "they are the soldier's of my heart"...

Cool! I had to look it up, but I can hear that. Although, I never thought SA sounded like The Chain... Doesn't he start SA by striking two notes, but in The Chain he is fingerpicking a complete chord on a dobro?

I actually didn't hear that until now - my ears weren't picking it up - yes he is. But the 'effect' I'm hearing runs throughout the entire song in all of the portions that Lindsey sings on, even in the earlier choruses and the outro when there is clearly just two parts being sung.
