Smile Does anyone believe...

That Stevie/The Mac has made an imact of some sort on society or the music industry? If yes, please explain(:

I feel like The Mac has made an impact on the music industry, yes. But not so much society. I think that with the enormous popularity and sales of Rumours they must have changed SOMETHING, right?!. Especially if people are STILL buying the album and talking about it. And right after the success of Rumours they came out with the creative masterpiece that is Tusk. But!... I could easily be wrong.

What do you think?

Fleetwood Mac was hottest around the time of Studio 54. It was sex, drugs and rock n roll. They fit the bill and were a sign of the times. The fact that all the band members slept around was pretty much normal.

Not really sure what their sex lives has to do with the question :/

I definitely think that have on both accounts

In regards to society/culture, if nothing else, it's undeniable that Stevie made an impact on fashion.

they were on the cover of Rolling Stone in bed together, had to do with rumours of their affairs, but they were a sign of the times, also the band is mish mash of US and British styles. Very cultural. There music had a big impact.

Obviously I know all of that. I thought that the question was asking if they had made a lasting impact on society... not their status as pop culture icons in the 70's. I might have been wrong.

Stevie is a fashion icon, so that is impacting society.

I think Stevie Nicks introduced a certain kind of romantic and literate poetry into mass culture. The fact that back in her prime, millions of kids sang along to such heartfelt and genuine lyrics must have had some kind of impact. Even if it helped people be more in touch with themselves, or their emotions.

By giving a voice to the housewives (and husbands) and youth of America...there must have been some kind of impact...however subtle.

Back then the mass public didn't just love Stevie because her songs had a good beat, or because she was hot (both true) they loved her for the lyrics. So in some way, I think that had an impact on the greater consciousness of the time....if just a little.

I think that they started the ball rolling for music exec's to start expecting multi-song hits from one album - and the multi million mega smash album. Pretty much, everything that the current members of FM are facing and/or frustrated with today with the attitudes from the record companies, Rumours kinda set a certain motion into play in the industry. With FM going in a different direction with Tusk (my personal fav) and to buck the money machine after the exec's saw the $ from Rumours, set up a future backlash (meaning art does not always equal profit) for up and coming artists to be able to stretch their artistic legs with multi low selling albums and and the music companies nurturing them to become the "next" FM- no matter how fantastic they may be...

Does that make any sense???

I think they'll forever be associated with the excesses of Rock And Roll, when one thinks of the 1970s, Fleetwood Mac will be one mentioned.

Stevie's had an impact on fashion, and I think Stevie and Christine proved that to be a girl in the male-dominated world of Rock didn't mean you had to sacrifice your femininity. I think this is why Stevie, in particular, struck a chord with a lot of people.
