I think the album version of Secret Love is ten times better than the live version. On the album the track is magical, mysterious, and infectious. The live version just doesn't cut the cheese.

You're mixing up your metaphors - it's "cut the mustard" - cut the cheese means something different.

I will say that I agree....Single choices have been appalling. Secret Love is rather bland and never grabbed me. And CTF...it was like holy sh*tballs, not again. Luckily Those 2 were the weakest tracks on a wonderful album. unfortunately those tracks won't do any favors for public interest....if they want to move units

Absolutely.

The two weakest tracks are the two singles.

ahh if only we could get in touch with stevie's pr people and tell them what to do. seriously we all do a better job at promotion by posting info on fb and twitter than her damm label does. ridiculous!

Why didn't they release a new single a week or two before the album release?

The following all have obvs single potential (even some could use a radio edit ):

in your dreams
moonlight
annabel lee
everybody loves you
ghosts are gone

Plus any of the above lend themselves to remixing or guest spots (yes, even by a rapper) that are typical of single releases these days.

Also, a real REAL music video director might have done something interesting with these songs (each of which lend themselves to evocative visuals--these songs have sweep).

Also, when I make my ten fav singles lists of the year, I always find I list uptempo songs and then maybe a ballad or two if they make me cry. If any of the above were released as a single, they'd be my favorite single of the year (currently it's either "Alphaville" by Bryan Ferry or "Together" by the Pet Shop Boys). "Secret Love," meanwhile, doesn't make my current Top 10 of the year--as much as I truly do love that song.

Secret Love has zero potential. The proof is in the pudding.

I'll admit my recommendations are all conjecture coloured by my tastes.

Releasing Secret Love as the first single followed by Cheaper Than Free was absolutely the stupidest thing to do especially for an artist like Stevie. Why would you put out the weakest songs when you're trying to sell records, I think she should've put out In Your Dreams first followed by Moonlight and then Annabel Lee all within a 3 month period leading up to her album's release. Her continuously singing Secret Love or any of her old hits on TV is going to do absolutely Jack S*** for sales.

At this rate, she may still be in the Top 10. At just over half reported, she is on target to have moved another 35-40K copies this week. That's not bad at all! At this rate she may hit 100K in sales by the end of the month.

Eh, I knew she would debut well...she's got a lot of fans! I think her drop is probably in about the right area. DWTS will boost this. I think more of her sales come from physical media (CD) rather than digital as she is still doing well on amazon.com (CD).

Paul Simon's new release is now creeping up the charts after an initial slow start and he's hardly had much marketing (that I've seen).
