Another re-worked SAY YOU WILL track listing thread

I love the new album, but I still have questions about the running order. The songs are excellent overall (though I would have omitted three songs), but the order of tracks still bothers me.

What does everyone think of this running order? I'm wanting to make a copy of this CD for myself, but I would like some input before doing so (just for fun)...

Here's my SAY YOU WILL re-worked track list:

1. What’s the World Coming To
2. Say You Will
3. Bleed to Love Her
4. Thrown Down
5. Miranda
6. Everybody Finds Out
7. Red Rover
8. Smile At You
9. Peacekeeper
10. Destiny Rules
11. Murrow Turning Over In His Grave
12. Running Through the Garden
13. Steal Your Heart Away
14. Illume
15. Say Goodbye

I have obviously omitted "Come" (fantastic song...but I cannot listen to this within the context of the rest of the album), "Goodbye Baby" (I go back and forth on this one...perhaps could have been a better B-side?) and "Silver Girl" (the only real clunker to be found on SAY YOU WILL, I think).

I've decided to do this exercise myself too... Let's see. I think, as ChiliD, that "Bleed To Love Her" is the perfect opener. And I'd like to switch the songs on the end. And no, I wouldn't erase any of the songs... so here it is:

I tried it just yesterday and I liked the effect of switching "Peacekeeper" and "Say You Will", and putting "Red Rover" just before "Running Through The Garden". I think it's more listenable than the actual running order, but it's all about tastes I suppose.

I wish I could find the link to my original post (if someone else can, please link it here)...your first eight songs are EXACTLY what I posted a couple (or more) weeks ago. In fact, your remarks about "Come" were almost, if not, verbatim, to my remarks at the time, as well. How much work did you REALLY put into this song order? Did you just use MY list as a model?

Actually, I never saw your post or track list! It's odd how close we are, though. But I did put a little time into arranging the track list...it just seems to make more sense this way.

I have changed my running order slightly since my original posting to this:

I basically just switched "Illume" and "Say You Will."

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT RUNNING ORDER, in my opinion. I really think the flow is much better this way. It's ashame, because the songs are great, but I don't know what Lindsey was thinking when he arranged them in the order he did. I have burned the above order onto a CD for myself, and keep wishing this was the final running order. Try it!

The only thing I did differently from what the person who came up with this order is, I left in "Silver Girl", instead of replacing it with "Not Make Believe." This way, every song on SYW is still there. I think all the songs are great, however, as stated many times before, it was hard to appreciate the songs in their original order. This new order makes the most sense to me. The idea of going back and forth between Lindsey and Stevie songs just works so well. It starts out light and poppy w/ Lindsey's WTWCT and that flow continues with Stevie's title track SYW. Then the next two songs "Bleed .." and "Thrown Down" are what I consider the "Never Going Back Again" and "Dreams" of this CD. Then as stated by the original poster, then comes the power songs (Miranda and Everybody ...) to really get things going. Then the next 4 songs are the "intense" songs of the record. Then comes what I consider classic Lindsey and Stevie (Peacekeeper and Destiny Rules). Time for climax - Come and Running Thru the Garden (Lindsey and Stevie thru and thru - just as the original poster stated.) Then comes time for the winding down period, (Steal Your Heart Away and Silver Girl.) Then of course, we close with the ballads.

Kudos to whoever came up with this order.

I think many people would agree that the biggest mistake they made in the running order was putting "Murrow" as the second song. I like the song but it just doesn't fit there. I'm sure Lindsey wanted it so early to make it clear that SYW wasn't going to be a safe, predictable Fleetwood Mac album.... but I think I would have erred on the side of conservatism and opened the album up with more familiar sounding material. I imagine a lot of more casual listeners hearing that song and turning the album off. I also think you shouldn't have an extended freak-out guitar solo so early in the record.

Personally I would put "Say You Will" as the 2nd song, though the tempo is maybe too similar to "What's the World Coming to." It's classic FM and the title track of the album. The rest of the album... well that could be done a million different ways, but I think "Illume" comes too early as well, and I would move "Peacekeeper" closer to the beginning of the album.

Tracks I would cut if I had my way:
"Come" - Lindsey has already recorded this song twice as "Tango in the Night" and "This is the Time," and I didn't like it much then either.
"Running Through the Garden" - this song seems to be really popular with fans but it just doesn't sound like FM to me - it sounds like an outtake from one of Stevie's 80s albums (which it is, isn't it?)

I listened to a burned cd of the revised track listing, I think it was Chili's.

I've come to the unpopular opinion that I like the original track order.
I don't like a Stevie Lindsey Stevie Lindsey...back and forth order.

I like the 'off kilter' feeling of the original track listing. There's something unexpected about the original listing that isn't perfect, and I like that about it. I'm sure there are better ways to describe what I like about the orginal version, but I'll leave that to ANYone who happens to agree with me.

Could there be anyone who feels this way?

I probably would get rid of Silver Girl and replace it with the new song from the limited edition cd. I can't think of the name right now. I really don't like Silver Girl and while other songs I didn't initially like have grown on me, this one seems to have the opposite effect.

There might be a better way to track it using a Lindsey Lindsey Stevie Stevie type order, but I'm not good at that type of thing. Chili or anyone want to take a stab at it?

There you have it, the only person who likes the original track order.

Well I have to say that I also agree. I like the original order myself. I have played around the order and took off a song or two that really make me cringe, but still came back to liking the original set. It took me some time to get used to the end though, but I understand it. Stevie packs in two fire powered songs then we are sedated by the goodbye songs, as a closing of sorts. The thing is though after hearing EFO and Destiny Rules, I am ready to rock some more but its over and the pace slows and sadly you realize the CD is almost over. No, 18 will never be enough!!
But all in all...I like the order and find myself always hitting replay once the last song is over to hear it all over again.
I can't get that CD out of my head..one copy in my car and another in the house....lol...addicted??? hell yea!

I don't mind the order, I like it. Although there have been MANY complaints about the length and order.

I know I'll get **** for cutting Destiny & Silver Girl but these are pretty bland songs. I thing among the least popular of her songs on the album. The 2 Lindsey songs I cut were old ones already released, BTLH & SYHA.

Pretty much as soon as the album was released, I started working on rearranging the sequencing... but I couldn't come up with anything I liked.
Then chiliD shared his sequencing, and I loved it so much, that it became the only way I listened to the album for several weeks.

Of course, me being me, I recently started tinkering with that too.

Anyway, here's what I've come up with (keeping in mind that this sequencing owes a great deal to chiliD's)....

Thanks! And, yeah, after a few weeks I'VE starting tweaking it around a bit again, too; but kept hitting some "rough spots". I'll try some of these ideas for inspiration. Oh, one tweak I liked in the "first 8" was flip-flopping "Say You Will" & "Thrown Down"...TD to #2, SYW to #4.
