Default In Your Dreams singles - Your Choice

I'd like to see what other people's thoughts are in regards to what should be the single releases off of In Your Dreams. I'm having a difficult time figuring this out myself just because there are so many great songs on this album.

So if you were Stevie's record company exec, and you could keep releasing singles, what songs would you release and in what order?

I would go with Moonlight first. The twihards need a fix while waiting for the next movie and it is a great song.
Then I would release the title track IYD probably the most catchy radio friendly song on the album.
Then I would go with You May Be The One . I think a lot of people can relate to this song.
Then Italian Summer because it is so romantic, so soulful.

Strangely I have had a similar experience when I've played selections of songs for people. Yet, it's one of my least favorite tracks on the album (which means I love it, but prefer others).

it's actually the first song i kept repeating when we had the stream on Rolling Stone. it's probably my favorite..and i was STUNNED that all the people i played it for loved it the most too... especially the teenagers...i figured they'd go for Moonlight...but no it was Wide Sargasso Sea??!! i think it's the music...and the fact that it's a full Story...not made up of bits and pieces of poems...so you can actually follow it!! so since it's been so popular with all the people i know...i'd do this as a single... with a killer video of course.. and the little snippet on the sizzle reel looks promising!! but you know it being a single wont happen! so sad...

i know what you mean i kept playing WSS over and over when listening to the stream as well. it instantly jumped out at me and its just so damm good. stevie is so fierce in this song and i would die to see this released on the radio with a kick ass video. i can already picture her doing this in concert with screens of fire and smoke behind her and her just totally getting into it. love it!!

If I were working for Warners and had my druthers, I would have done this...

"In Your Dreams" released in late March
"Moonlight" released in May
"Italian Summer" released in July
"Everybody Loves You" released in September

and If I were given the go ahead for a fifth single, I'd put "Wide Sargasso Sea" out in the fall!

Wow these are some really cool replies. I hope we see some more!

I just wondered about this because as I was listening to the album last night and wondering what the second single would be, I kept thinking "oh this could be a hit"...."but then this one sounds like a single already"....."but then THIS one seems so radio-friendly".....

I'm looking forward to seeing what other folks think.

I would have released

Moonlight
Ghosts Are Gone
New Orleans
Secret Love
Annabel Lee

In Your Dreams only if it was remixed. It is too repetitive and bland-ish (but still awesome)

My choice for singles:

1-In Your Dreams (should've been released over SL imo)
2-You Could Be The One (release this one immediately!!!)
3-Moonlight
4-Italian Summer or Everybody Loves You

I could see "Secret Love" being, say, the third or fourth single if In Your Dreams had warranted that many single releases. However, it might not even be my fifth choice for a single.

My choices for singles are, in order:

1. "In Your Dreams"
The title track is fast-paced optimism and is catchy as HELL. It also showcases some of Nicks's best lyrics in many, many years. It would have been THE perfect way of announcing to the world that Nicks is making some of the best music in her career in her 60s.

2. "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)"
The tie-in with the Twilight series would have been a natural choice to lure in people who could potentially be fans. The chorus is almost terminally catchy.

3. "Wide Sargasso Sea"
A bit long for a single, but Nicks's singing has SO MUCH passion in it and conjures up so many classic Nicks themes that it would definitely tell the world that it's a Stevie Nicks song.

4. "Italian Summer"
Seriously going against type for me to pick a ballad, but it's so lush, so romantic, and had so much buzz prior to IYD's release that would have been almost foolish for it to not at least try to maintain the attention the song was getting from press prior to the sizzle video being put up.

5. "Secret Love"
The whole Rumours tie in thing, plus the fact that it is catchy and it's short enough to be a radio single. However, "New Orleans" and "Soldier's Angel" are stronger songs.

The song I'm leaving out because I think it's way too long to be a viable single, even though it's the second best song on this record is "Ghosts Are Gone." Structurally, it has some similarities to "Fall From Grace" in the sense that there's no real chorus, but because "Fall From Grace" is a relatively short 4:31, it might have worked as a single. At least my then-roommate thought so, and he was definitely NOT a chiffonhead.

Okay, I took your suggestions and did the following:

I created a grid of 6 releases (if you suggested less than 6, I just left the latter ones blank). I then added points per position (so a song suggested for first release got 6 points, for 2nd release got 5 points, etc.). Here's the result so far:

"Moonlight" (total points 42) and "In Your Dreams" (total points 38) are the absolute top choices. People just seem to vary mainly in which should be first, which second.

"Italian Summer" is in third place with a total of 12 points and is also most often listed by people as the third or fourth potential single.

"You May Be The One" comes in at fourth with 13 total points. When it gets mentioned it gets mentioned higher than "Italian Summer", as being the 2nd or 3rd single, but fewer people choose it than choose "Italian Summer".

"Annabel Lee" comes in fifth with 12 total points. The people that choose it pick it as a top release (such as second single) but again fewer people in total have selected it.

"Wide Sargasso Sea" places sixth with 10 total points, the bulk of them coming from 1 person who selected it as the "shoulda been" single.

"New Orleans"/"Secret Love" tie with 7 points each and usually place later in the release order. The people who chose "Secret Love" were citing it as a single but a "should have been released later" single.

"Everybody Loves You" places a surprising (to me) 9th place with a total of 6 points. The highest it places with someone is as the 4th single, and others pegged it as the fifth or sixth single.

StandBackStevie: for consistency I just used your pop song release list.
