Default Mac Attack: Five Fleetwood Mac Solo Hits

Billboard charts this week are set to incur a Mac attack.

Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" is primed to re-enter the Billboard 200, possibly within the top 30, while the band's Stevie Nicks could crash the top 10 with "In Your Dreams," her first studio album since 2001.

Concurrently, multiple "Glee" cast covers of tracks from "Rumours," unveiled on last Tuesday's (May 3) episode, are likely to dent the Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts to be released Thursday (May 12) on Billboard.com.

While "Glee" paid tribute to Fleetwood Mac's seminal album last week, Nicks' latest bow further illustrates the band's three famed lead vocalists' successful solo careers.

Here is a look at five hits, over 30 years, that Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie have scored while on break from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-enshrined legendary band.

Stevie Nicks
"Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" (with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers)
No. 3, Hot 100, 1981

After fronting Fleetwood Mac on such smashes as "Rhiannon (Will You Ever Win)," "Dreams" and "Sara," Nicks eased into her solo career with the assistance of two star rock acts. She followed this song with the No. 6-peaking "Leather and Lace," with Don Henley, in 1982. Nicks subsequently scored two unaccompanied solo top fives: "Stand Back" (No. 5, 1983) and "Talk to Me" (No. 4, 1986).

Lindsey Buckingham
"Holiday Road"
No. 82, Hot 100, 1983

While the male voice of Fleetwood Mac scaled the top 40 with "Trouble" (No. 9, 1982) and "Go Insane" (No. 23, 1984), the song that lurked in the Hot 100's lower reaches for five weeks in between remains beloved as the theme to "National Lampoon's Vacation." Buckingham also contributed the song heard at the movie's close, "Dancin' Across the USA," but he can't take credit for the film's other memorable composition; John Hughes co-wrote "The Wally World National Anthem."

Christine McVie
"Got a Hold on Me"
No. 10, Hot 100, 1984

The writer and singer of such Fleetwood Mac hits as "Say You Love Me," "You Make Lovin' Fun" and "Everywhere" notched the first of her two solo Hot 100 chart entries with this song, which also topped Adult Contemporary for four weeks. Follow-up "Love Will Show Us How" peaked at No. 30 on the Hot 100 and No. 32 on AC.
Christine McVie
"Friend"
No. 29, Adult Contemporary, 2005

After 21 years, McVie added her third AC chart entry with the lead single from her third solo album, "In the Meantime." Fleetwood Mac's most recent studio release, 2003's "Say You Will," sported McVie only in a backing vocal role on the Buckingham composition "Bleed to Love Her

Stevie Nicks
"Secret Love"
No. 20, Adult Contemporary, 2011

Nicks wrote the lead single from "In Your Dreams" and 1976 and, after recording a demo, the song was considered for inclusion on "Rumours." Featuring Mick Fleetwood on drums, the new version climbs to the AC chart's top 20 (21-20) in its 11th chart week, marking Nicks' highest placement since "Every Day" rose to No. 17 in 2001. The track also reached No. 25 on the Triple A adult alternative tally last month.
