Seriously! NYC is closer for me. And I kinda wanted to go there more. No offense, LA.

Just read through this whole thread - I was on the LA-ers who just couldn't make Webster Hall work financially and in the middle of the week so I got tickets to Indio on Friday instead. I really hope NY people get something since it seems all the east coast shows were rescheduled but I'm incredibly excited about the Wiltern. Maybe if they do General Admission we can set up some sort of line waiting schedule (then we can begin two days early no problem).

How anticlimactic for those of us who were to be at the Webster Hall show...I will be surprised if she does this and does not reschedule something for NYC.

And I hope like hell we don't see these tix on ebay for 5 times their face value.

I have miles to go before I sleep. A shot list, prop list, blah blah blah for a very important shoot this weekend.

However, I want to take this special moment to tell a little story that is very apropos
for this Webster Hall cancellation/LA intimate show replacement hoo ha.

For all long term ledgies that may have heard it before (Jake, Niki, Suze, Livia, Jannie, David, et. al, you know who you are), I apologize for repeating it.

Picture it : 1982. Baby Sparky. 16 years old. Buys tickets over the phone to an October show in Oakland on the very limited Mirage tour. It is the closest town they are coming to Baby Sparky's home town of Portland Oregon. Plane tickets bought. THROUGH TRAVEL AGENT. Cause that's how we rolled in 1982. Baby Sparky is going to concert with Stevie Nicks lookalike girlfriend, complete with top hat, roses in her hair, and staying with said girlfriend's father in Oakland. I think the date was 10/3/82. First time on a plane!

Keep in mind, B Sparky is working almost full time in a nursing home doing laundry (don't even think about it, the reality is worse than the visual) and mopping floors and going to High School and acting in plays and being a track runner and all that. This is how Sparky saved all the money for this trip. About 500-600 bucks if memory serves. Would likely be much more money today.

So, lookalike GF and B Sparky arrive in Oakland. Dad and Stepmom are welcoming, have a fab home on the hill in the good part of Oakland. Yes there is a good part of Oakland. There was in 1982 anyway. They take us to lunch.

We listen to the radio on the way home from lunch and we hear it: Tonight's Fleetwood Mac concert is cancelled due to the illness of Stevie Nicks.

WTF?

We were furious and hysterical. The weekend was not to be recovered.
Tears and consternation and gnashing of teeth ensued.

Once we got home, I literally ripped up the Stevie pictures that lined my locker.
I still wish I had those. The Glamour magazine shot I had stolen from the library! Concert photos I had bought from Dorian Boese through the back pages of Goldmine! Agh! The treasures!

I was done. In the way that only a 16 year old Stevie fan dude could be done.
Heartbroken. Betrayed. Dream shattered. Fill in the blanks.

As is common, the show was rescheduled later that month. I think it was the 16th.
In the interim, my bike was stolen. The bike I rode to the horrible nursing home job that financed the trip. To this day I have no idea how I came up with the money to buy another plane ticket to go back, but I did. I always had more money stashed away somewhere. From my job, mowing lawns, picking up stray bottles. Some things never change. Sparky always stashes money for rainy days. Like a squirrel burying nuts for winter. My parents did not give me a penny. There was no pot of money to pull from. I raided some buried nut pile somewhere as I seem to remember that it cost another 162 dollars for another plane ticket. I remember riding the bus into downtown Portland to unload yet another pocketful of cash to the travel agent for yet another plane ticket. The GF was out. She had a dance concert or something. I was on my own.

So back I went. The parents of the GF let me stay with them AGAIN, and drove me to the show and picked me up. How cool were they? I will never forget them. Cy and Helene. A lawyer and a professor. I waited from 2pm onward at the Oakland Coliseum. Heard the sound check. Met another girl in a top hat and flowers. Big surprise, right? Had a ticket in the 16th row or so. We got stoned. We ran up to the stage at the end. I saw SOTM and Landslide 5 feet from Stevie's brown suede boots. She had on a pink skirt with a metallic silver flower pattern. The lights flashed off of it. And the velvet button up jacket with that rick rack trim. The famous Tusk bolero jacket. At the encore, Stevie grabbed the pink rose off her mic stand and tossed it into the crowd. Somehow or another, I caught it. It traveled back to Portland with me in my trusty backpack from my Cub Scout days. The one that my Mom bought with S & H green stamps. I took it to school with me for a week. Today it is still remains, brittle with age and pressed into the pages of my 1982 HS yearbook.

I later found out that the show was cancelled because Robin had died.

The moral of the story? Sh*t always works out in the end, folks.

I am not telling this story to tragedy trump anyone. It is just something odd, sad, and ultimately charmed that happened to another lifelong Stevie fan. Somehow or another, if you are persistent, everything falls into place. In the ensuing years, and I am thankful for my age for this, I have been to tons of shows...Stormy Weather (both), AZ Heart institute, Sydney in the front row for free, HOB New Years shows,
Roxbury SA Show, the SIR TISL private show. Met her a few times and talked. I could go on. I am not gloating. It is just the magic and serendipity that comes from following her. I have no idea how it happens. Persistence. Being in the right place at the right time. Having good friends. Being in show business. Who knows?

I am sad for the people who missed Webster. I have been there. Clearly.

But stick with it everyone. You will have your dream shows.

As long as you stick it out and as long as you and Stevie still walk this mortal coil.

You will make lifelong friends. Shout out to Meredith and Clayre and Stace and Marisa and Anna and Salvatore and my most beloved Hos. And my dearly missed Bruce.

And damn right I will be at that Wiltern show. Will be like show number 40 or so. I lost count. Too many ticket stubs to count. I hope it is the best one yet.

Maybe I will see some of you there.

You're giving me faith that things will work out! Too bad I don't have much time, though... this would be easier if she'd given us more than 2 weeks notice.

For real. Even 3 weeks notice would have helped. The reason I most likely will not be able to get it together for this trip is the airfare cost. Last minute and about double the distance over NYC.

I try to have faith that things will work out in the end, but honestly I have just had really crappy luck with anything working out since I graduated. It just keeps getting worse. I know Debbie downer blah blah blah.

This is why I usually purchase the travel insurance for 10 bucks or whatever so if in the event I can't go on the trip, I can use it later or re-book another trip. This would save you on all costs except for the concert tickets themselves which I'd imagine they'd be refunded anyway. Hope this helps

In my experience, refundable concert tickets are usually a few hundred dollars more. What airline do you buy from?

I drempt about this stuff all night last night, at least while I was sleeping. It was hard to sleep.

I'm hoping the tickets aren't too expensive. You never know with the LA venues. The Heart and Soul tickets for hollywood bowl were more expensive than any other venue on the tour for some reason. The top tier TM price for tomorrow's New Mexico casino show is $75, and the same show the following saturday for Vega$ is $175!!

The first item on my agenda to make the LA show happen for me is to check my work schedule. If someone else has that day off I may have to come down with some type of illness....

You're so dedicated to your craft.

And thanks for sharing that story. I don't think I've ever heard it before.
