Default Favourite/Leastfavourite Madonna album?

Hi guys

There was a little discussion of this a couple of weeks ago, louie loves Bedtime Stories, but I was having this conversation with some friends the other night and thought I'd start an actual thread. So, which is your favourite and least favourite Madonna albums and why? Also, is there an album of hers you think has been forgotten?

Fave: Like A Prayer (1989) / Something To Remember (1996?)
I'm including both because Something To Remember is mostly a compilation of released material. Almost all of Madonna's ballads. I love it - it really showcases her as a songwriter, something she never gets enough credit for. Crazy For You is my favourite Madonna track and Take A Bow is lovely. The strings are also great on I'll Remember (Madonna goes almost orchestral - haha!) If the album had Rain and Bad Girl on it it would be perfect!

Like A Prayer: Well, what can be said about this album that hasn't already over the years? The title track is superb, pop/rock/Gospel... and they all come together in a brilliant mix of burning crosses and Madonna dancing around in a nightie. FYI: This is the only video I've ever thought Madonna looked hot in, more natural. The song is just epic! The rest of the album is stellar too and I think the closest Madonna has come to a successfully cohesive artistic statement.

Till Death Us Do Part is unremittingly harsh yet does that great thing of setting it against a singalong beat so makes it all the .more shocking (see Suzanne Vega: Luka, Annie Lennox: Walking On Broken Glass and Kylie: Better The Devil You Know). Pray For Spanish Eyes is a big gorgeous ballad and, yes, her voice cracks on it but it works for the song. The you have Cherish: In my opinion one of the best allout pop tunes she has ever recorded. Dear Jessie is lovely too. I even quite like Act Of Contrition... "ducks.."

Worst: Hard Candy (2008). I'm not keen on almost all of Madonna's post Music material but I think this album really is the worst of the lot. The point at which she became a follower and not a leader and just did stuff that had been heard several times before... but did it badly.

Underrated Gem: Erotica (1992). Such a shame this album got dwarfed by the Sex book and everything else that went along with it because there really are some great songs onhere. The title track, Depper and Deeper, Bad Girl. It gets a bad rap so needs to be rediscovered!

I actually like Something To Remember a lot... even though it's more of a collection. "Music", to me, is her last really good album.

I am so out of the loop that I am sure the last Madonna album I heard was True Blue, and that was on a cassette when it first came out. (Daggonit, why isn't there a Grandpa smilie, or maybe the bouncing blue blob shuffling in a walker, for me to post here?)

I haven't heard everything she's done so I don't really have a least favorite album, but my favorite(s) would probably be True Blue and Confessions On A Dance Floor. There are a bunch of songs on each album I love but those have the most 'loved' songs for me.

Yet again, we agree!

True Blue seems to be getting a lot of love. It is great. I think the title track is a forgotten gem of a tune, and Papa Don't Preach is my 2nd favourite Madonna song after Crazy For You.

The Confessions album is my fav, along with the Confessions tour, which was the best live show I have seen by any artist.

This is a tough one for me, because I have them all...But I would have to say:
"Something To Remember" because I love her collection of ballads plus the new tracks
"Bedtime Stories"
"Like A Virgin" I love, love "Pretender", "Stay", and "Angel" the most.
"Ray of Light" this is a great album

I didn't so much care for:
"Hard Candy"
"American Life", though my favorite song on the album is "Love Profusion"
"I'm Breathless"
"Music" (though also I did like, "Impressive Instant",that's a fun song to listen to.)

Other than that, I love all her albums, but the ones where I can listen to every song on it and not skip any would be those first 4 I named, all the others are ok.

Fave: Hands down.... Confessions On A Dance Floor

Lease Fave: Every other album she's done..

Compared to Confessions where I can listen and like the whole album. The rest I only like certain songs... so you can lump them all in the same category.

Favorite Modonna Album: Confessions On A Dance Floor

Worst: Madonna doesn't have a 'worst' album for me, but I'd say that the one I enjoy the least is Music

Most Underrated: American Life. I got this before release at a listening party. I didn't "get it", didn't like it, and didn't want to like it. I put it on the shelf, and rediscovered it five years later when someone (the ove of my life) put Nothing Fails on a mix CD for me. I loved the song right away, and it opened the door to this album for me in a new way. Since that time it's climbed to my top three favorite Madonna album list. It has the most personal lyrics of any Madonna album, which does separate it from her other work in a dramatic way. Nobody Knows Me, Intervention and Mother And Father just blow me away! She was, once more, truly ahead of her time with this album.

Intervention - Possibly the greatest love song Madonna ever wrote:

Favorite - Bedtime Stories, I absolutely love this album. Inside of Me is probably my favorite Madonna song ever.

Least Favorite-Erotica, Deeper and Deeper is another of my favorites, and Bad Girl. Other than that though, I don't listen to much else from it.

I could kiss you for both of these things!

I haven't heard all of Madonna's albums, but am definitely a Bedtime Stories fanboy as well. I tend to think it's her under appreciated gem. It gets so lost in the shuffle between what preceded it (the Sex book & Erotica album) and what came after it (Ray Of Light). I think people tend to write off the album because of that. It really is a strong, emotional, honest album... and that's all that should matter.

'Like A Prayer' is my favorite (with 'Confessions' and 'True Blue' hot on its heels).

My absolute least favorite is 'Music.' I like the singles on that one, but not much else.
