Is there a NOTS roll-call thread?

Travis - Good Luck!! A fukll hour of Stevie videos in a club in NYC!! I HATE that my boiler exploded and Ihad to spend my NOTS money on getting new one!! Especially as I did start this thread with the full intent of getting my ass over there! It's a bit upsetting... Oh well, never mind. I'm sure you'll be great!! Is there any way to see the videos online after the event? Do you have a website or anything? I'd love to see them! PM me if you prefer. Al.

This is Tittybell Lee, Jazmen's assistant, and she's so excited for tonight. She can't wait to see everyone.
She's had such a good time hearing about all the recent posts about boobs and her divaish behaviour (which is non-existent...the behaviour that is). Please come up and say hi! We look forward to an excellent night and lots of wild-hearted romanticism! If you can't find her, find me - I'll be the one carrying all the sh*t for her. Ha! |

NOTS 21 - The Wild Heart
Ledgie Travis acted as DJ/VJ for the pre-show DJ set. The video display was transfixing. Forgive me if I don't know the names or get the names wrong of the performers. Act 1 1. Beauty and The Beast - Dance troupe. Couldn't really pay attention because some annoying guy was arhythmically shaking his tambourine next to my ear. I moved. 2. Dreams - Crystal Visions. A Canadian all-drag Mac tribute act. I can't remember the performance. 3. Rhiannon - Jessy Wild. And old-school rocker lady. But she did a great job on Rhiannon--mimicking some of Stevie's old-school flourishes while coming up with some of her own--accompanied by her son on guitar. One of the evening's highlights. 4. Talk to Me. Don't remember. 5. Storms - Amber Martin. She always annoys me. She's very bawdy. And sarcasmic. But when she gets to singing: she always does a good job. And this year she outdid herself with her superb band accompanying her and the lead guitarist adding beautiful harmonies and vocal layers 6. Crystal - Adam Joseph-plus. It's no secret I find AJ's affectations annoying and his vocals on Stevie songs to be cloying, but after a really really really off start (probably due to loud soundboard), I would actually say this was his best NOTS performance by far. I wish I knew more about hte family of musicians (mom and daughter on vocals, father on guitar) that accompanied him, but they really raised this one up, while AJ's voice was appropriate within this combination. Act 2 7. Wild Heart - The Hohos. Ingenius! I wouldn't say they topped last year's Red Rock re-enactment, but this was spectacular. They mimicked the album cover of The Wild Heart, the "If Anyone Falls" ballet duet (hilarious!), BOTH of Stevie's hairstyles in two different interviews in which she repeatedly uses the word "wild," all while doing a credible vocal on the night's theme song AND mashing it up with Duran Duran's Wild Boys! A multi-media coup. Saturday Night Live hasn't been this clever in decades. 8. Smile At You - Jazmen Flowers. Last year, I think Jazmen came in second on my list of favorite performances. This year, there was no competition. Smile At You was transfixing and epic. Bravo! 9. Sorcerer - Black Swan spoof. Black Swan was already camp, but this also spoofed the film's inane acclaim. Just not sure I get why it goes with Sorcerer... (I guess Sorcerer is a song about showbiz). 10. Stop Dragging My Heart Around - Sherry Vine. It dragged. ![]() 11. Gold Dust Woman - The harpist returns. Nothing compares to the first year I saw the harpist. The second year was a disaster because the sound was too loud and it just filled the space with an annoying rumble that left me deaf for days. They got the sound right this year but I didn't really dig the concept: As if a traveling male singer and harpist from back in the Old West were singing Gold Dust Woman. The vocal was very fine. And the harpist was interesting. But I think people were confused about how to take the whole look of it and affectations (singing out of the side of the mouth). 12. If Anyone Falls - Don't remember. 13. The Chain - A Dance number. Act 3 14. Enchanted - Little Stevie. Puppet. Didn't seem very Stevie to me in terms of gestures (even the spinning was tooooo much) but the stage extension at the end was a great visual. 15. Rooms on Fire - Don't remember. (Sorry I got tired) 16. Silver Springs - Stevie Nixxx. Solid tribute, but I miss some of the more inventive interpretations from previous years. (Really only Jazmen offered that this year.) Ended with: "Thank you. Silver Springs is a great old song." At this point, the MC said something interesting (I forget to what it was in reference): "And it was: magic." I think the ending of "You May Be the One" may officially have entered the Mac fans Lexicon. 17. Billy O - Gypsy. Billy O might be some kind of genius. Dedicating this song to a friend lost in the last year, it was both genuine (there were moments he seemed to get overwhelmed by emotion) and, and I don't know how HE does it, a celebration of our shared love for the Mac and for the song. It's an uncanny spectacle, what a man in red shawl can do. 18. At Last - Velocity Child. Burlesque number set to Stevie's At Last cover. I love Stevie's version, so it was great to hear it with an audience and the performance was very ... burlesquey. Which is appropriate to the tone of the whole show. Fun. If not my thing. 19. Bombay Sapphire - Grace. The unintended result of this performance was me validating my belief that IYD is a huge improvement over TISL. 20. Sisters of the Moon - Johnny Quinlan of Robel Hotel. A man and a keyboard. Kind of the Rufus Wainright version of the song, except Quinlan is a better singer. 21. Edge Battle - Always cathartic spectacle. In past years, I felt more of a sense of military troops marching into a conquered city, but... at least this year no poseurs were allowed.

Hey Everyone,
I’m just chiming in real quick to say what an amazing night I had last night. I feel so blessed and fortunate to have been a part of NOTS 21. My set ended around 10:15 so obviously the fans that showed up later missed the videos, but I was pleased at the amount of fans that were there during the first hour. True Faith, it was nice to meet you. I’m sorry we cut it short. Thank you for your nice words, and thank you Dodfather. I’ll upload some of the videos in the coming days but for now, here is the last clip I played, my outro that led into the welcoming of Night of a Thousand Stevies 21 - The Wild Heart.

David Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar, who has also played with James Brown, Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger and more recently the Scissor Sisters. A Legend His wife, singer Robin Clark who has also performed with Bowie and was part of Simple Minds in the 80s Their daughter Lea Lorien is a dance music artist who has had hits with producer David Morales. They did a great job on Crystal with Adam - the harmonies and solos specially. Also loved the ballet dancer on pointe to "Beauty and the Beast" that opened the show - AFTER THE MESSAGE FROM STEVIE OF COURSE - how amazing was that? |
