Whoa...I would have never known unless 7 news sent breaking news to Ashley's phone....cuz I probs wouldnt even gone on fb or anything since I'm getting ready for bed..

I actually dont know how to respond to this...I am really scared that they might retaliate, yet i'm rather relieved that he's finally dead..

I'm simply listening to Soldier's Angel & Illume, remembering 9/11 and am contemplating all those who have served our country in uniform. This is a triumphant & powerful day to be an American indeed.

josh and i were joking about stevie's sales... but as for Bin Laden I don't find it funny. I was neither happy nor sad to hear about his death.

Other May 1st Events:

1945: Death of Hilter

2003 – 2003 invasion of Iraq: In what becomes known as the "Mission Accomplished" speech, on board the USS Abraham Lincoln (off the coast of California), U.S. President George W. Bush declares that "major combat operations in Iraq have ended".

pff... Bin Laden's been a zombie for the last couple of years. I bet it'll come out that they've had his head/brain in a glass jar.

Default Stevie returns to NY as the city sees the end of Bin Laden's reign of terror

Tonight the announcement of Osama Bin Laden's demise was all over our TVs. We know how 9-11 afffected Stevie and that she was here during that time, feeling that energy. How appropriate that she be back here this week as we come full circle at the news of tonight! Looks like this album will be surrounded by a lot of emotional cleansing!

Oddly the first thing I thought of was ..you can stick a fork in the rather dubious lineup of Republican Presidential candidates for 2012..they're done.

It feels like with this one event that America has instantly entered into a new era, and can start to repair the pain & bridge the divides of this past decade.

God I hope that's true. America has felt like a different place (and justifiably so) for a loooooooong time.

Yes. It's been like being on the other side of the mirror... in a very dark parallel universe. It feels like "the ghost is gone" now, though. I hope we can all learn to treat each other better once again.

I hope so. And I hope that this brings some closure for all of us (I think we can assume that everyone was affected in some way), and especially for the families of those who died on 9/11 and since then.

But I can't help but be skeptical that this really changes things. I don't think we're any safer for it, and I don't think the world is safer for democracy, really. The forces that led to 9/11 are still very much alive, and there's not a real fix for that on the horizon.

Still, I can't help but be grateful that we won't approach the 10th anniversary with the knowledge that he's still out there.

God I'm so jumbled. I don't know if I'm making any sense.

mezzo, i think you are right to be skeptical. It's probably more likely that someone worse will rise to take Bin Laden's place than for this to be the end of it.

You're 100% right about this. We're not more safe because Bin Laden is dead. This doesn't mean the world reverts back to the way it was on September 10, 2001, either. But this IS a definitive moment. The man who masterminded the killing of 3,000 Americans (and subsequently thousands of others in the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan) is now dead. This can be the unity event we've all been hoping for. We finally have peace of mind that the man who assaulted & forever changed our country has been brought to justice. Now we can hopefully move on with our lives and begin focusing on the many other big issues that challenge us. No, the war on terrorism isn't over. It probably never will be. But the hunt for Bin Laden finally is.
