Yes. I just don't seem to respond as deeply to songs where she doesn't also write the music.

But this brings up another interesting point for me. Stevie is credited with "Words" on a lot of these songs, which to me means she just wrote the lyrics. But from listening to her & Dave describe the way they work together, I had the impression that she was also writing -- or at least helping with -- the melody. Right? I think she's downplaying her contribution in just taking credit for "Words."

I keep seeing flashes of that awful movie, Under The Tuscan Sun. :/

You are totally right! I wonder how much she did work on the melodies of those songs she's only credited with writing the words to and if so I wonder why she would downplay her contribution?

Dave basically came up with the chord progression of the song, and Stevie sang her lyrics over that while he did it... and they went from there. At least, that's how she described it. So yes, I think for the most part Stevie did come up with the melody - but it was based off of what Dave was playing.

O.k. so I listened to the whole album once through and so far my favorite part of it is the chorus to Wide Sargasso Sea! "The only thing that they did together was to make love".

Oh and the final note of Italian Summer. Sing it girl!

Well, he asked her to sing her poems and he played along with the guitar. Then they changed things around, so she worked out the melody with him.

I just noticed something pretty funny on New Orleans. If you listen realllly carefully at 0:35/6 you can hear a man say "here we go" before Stevie starts singing. It's super-quiet, but there's definitely a man there.

I found some of the transitions a little jarring. It definitely all works together, but I'm not sure I'd have sequenced it like this. Maybe it'll make more sense on my second start-to-finish listen!

This is such a lovely sentiment I think this shows in how happy Stevie seems to be with this album and the whole process of making it. It really shows off what this girl can do!

Jarring haha, I jumped a mile when the heavy part of Wide Sargasso Sea kicked in In a GOOD WAY!

^^ ME TOO!! That song rocks so damn hard

The line on In Your Dreams "come in out of the darkness, it's a beautiful ... day" put such a big smile on my face.

I'm not sure which thread to post this in.

I thought the guitar line in Sargasso Sea sounded familiar.
I kept thinking Ian Astbury was going to join in at some point.

Listen to the Cult's "Love".
