DallasDude · #19 04-28-2011, 08:08 AM

I've listened enough times to know the ones I like the very best, and I doubt it will change much:

For What It's Worth
In Your Dreams
Moonlight
Secret Love
The Ghosts Are Gone
You May Be The One

The rest are good, but these are my favs. I'd say that the first 2 probably rank in my Top 10 of all Stevie songs.

Thanks! I seriously can't choose favorites among the different tiers, but I know which groups of songs are stronger for me.

Jondalar · #21 04-28-2011, 08:16 AM

I'm going to try this, but I keep flip flopping. Sometime Tier 2 or 3 can be 1. But for the most part, this is what I been listening to heavily.

Tier 1
Everybody Loves You
Moonlight
For What It's Worth
Soldier's Angel (the darkness and perspective of this song makes it unique from rest, so I been listening to this one a lot)

Teir 2
New Orleans
Wide Sargasso Sea
In Your Dreams
Italian Summer
You May Be The One

Tier 3
Cheaper Than Free
Ghosts Are Gone
Secret Love
Annabelle Lee

PROPOSAL: If you took the top 5 below and combined them with 6 or 7 new Lindsey tracks (bootlegs) that we've heard, you'd have the best ablum of the year. Stevie coulda released a fine, compact, very Stevie solo ablum with the bottom 8 (or 9 with that bonus track).

After Three Listens: IYD Ranked (w/ initial responses)

Tier 1 - Contenders for the Pantheon
1. Moonlight (A Vampire's Tale) - I feel like this is the song that Stevie has been building toward in her solo career. Its tempo/style shifts along with its epic length and its haunted harmonies finally bust beyond all those boundaries her songwriting--structure and storytelling--always pushes but in a way that might put her Lady In The Mountain saga in its place in our popular lore along with Twilight. It is the Mac/Stevie magic in one song--fulfilling and commenting on the process by which a network of private symbols is put the use of popular lore.
2. Annabel Lee - God Bless Mick Fleetwood (that MUST be him on this song!). The most soaring, shimmering track on the album. The phrasing combined with Poe's?Stevie's poetry is overwhelming romantic. Also it flirts with a Sapphic subtext that seems to pop up throughout this album--making it an intriguing personal confession that reminds me of MJ's Dangerous album.

Tier 2 - We R Worthy
3. Everybody Loves You
4. You May Be the One
5. Soldier's Angel

Tier 3 - Hat's Off!
6. In Your Dreams
7. Italian Summer
8. Wide Sargasso Sea - fumidesigns' enthusiasm is infectious!
9. For What It's Worth
10. New Orleans

Tier 4 - Skippable

11. Cheaper Than Free
12. Secret Love
13. Ghosts Are Gone

This sums up Annabel Lee perfectly..I'm not getting how it is rating so low with alot of fans.Stevie IMO has had some Sapphic subtext going on since way back.
