Well, I wonder what Annabel Lee would say... Probably:
"And then you can just do without it... Whoa... (I can make you crazy!) Whoa! (Tell me bout the fire!) Do without it! (Well, it's getting old anyway) Strange, strange, strange Lady from the mountains... Strange lady from the mountains..." ![]() Last edited by mikebise; 04-18-2011 at 08:46 PM.. Before and just after it was released she was touting it as 'one of the best things they had ever done. Then about a year after the final leg of the tour she had plenty of recriminations over the production and sequencing of the album.

I don't remember reading any of that. Can somebody point me to some interviews? I'd love to hear what she said about it.

Quote:
The singer could be making a backhanded reference to Say You Will, the 2003 Fleetwood Mac album that Nicks recorded without long-time ally and confidante Christine McVie, who left the band in 1998 in favor of a quiet life in London. Originally conceived as a Lindsey Buckingham solo project, Say You Will came to resemble two separate albums awkwardly squashed together, with nine songs apiece from Buckingham and Nicks alternating in strict succession. "I'd be totally lying if I said that record is what I wanted, because it isn't," she says. "I argued with Lindsey all the way through it, and he argued with me. It wasn't very much fun, and I wasn't that pleased with the music. I felt my demos were better, which of course is easy to say, but I did. And what can I say? It wasn't a lot of fun." It seems that almost 30 years after the end of her romantic relationship with Buckingham there's still tension. But you would never have known it in February 2004, at the Melbourne show of the 135-date Say You Will tour. Buckingham kissed Nicks' hand several times during the show, while she draped her arms tenderly over his shoulders as he played guitar. According to Nicks, that tenderness, like her witchy lyrics, was just for show. "We are extremely professional, and when we get up there on the stage we get lost on the fun parts of the show," she explains. "So it's never going to show anything bad, because we're always going to rise above and concentrate on the good things." I'm not sure how to post a link but this is from an interview with an Austrailian paper in 2006 .

I don't think she was miserable the whole tour. There was a stretch there during the tour where they were doing interviews that were quite lovey dovey. Then, the tour ended and they were mad at each other, for reasons that have never been explained. But I definitely don't think they were fighting the entire tour. Things started a little grumpy. Then they seemed friendly and then it ended badly, for whatever reason and no, I don't think it's because she was still mad about SYW. Michele |

I do remember Lindsey mentioning in one pre-release interview that Stevie had yet to thank him for his work on her 'SYW' songs. He stated that she was "still seeing this album through dark colors." Which I think was our first hint that there was some drama behind the scenes. Last edited by Johnny Stew; 04-19-2011 at 12:05 AM.. |

[QUOTE=Johnny Stew;967051]I don't remember Stevie necessarily saying it was one of the best things they'd ever done, but I could be wrong on that. /QUOTE]
Watch the Destiny Rules doc if you have it..She states in typical Nicksian hyperbole that 'it will be a life changing event for whomever mixes the album.

On Feb. 2, 2002, I went straight from the Trouble in Shangri-La tour into recording with them. It was nightmare doing that record. It really was Lindsey’s vision, and it wasn’t very much about the other three of us. And of course it was also the first record we had ever attempted to do without Christine [McVie, who left the band in the late 1990s]. Right there, the whole thing was completely insane. She is the magic mediator in that band and always was. She’s the one who made light of everything and made everybody laugh and told us all that were full of ****. She was the person who made it all work. So when she wasn’t there, that sunk the boat. I don’t think that my friend Chris ever realized how important she was. Without her, it’s a boy’s club. The lack of Christine is a big, hollow hole in my heart. Would you be willing to attempt another record without her? Absolutely not. Not in this lifetime. Why? We already tried, and it did not work. My thing is, somebody convince Christine to come back and do this one more time. I don’t think she’s going to change her mind, but stranger things have happened.

I did think her bad-mouthing of SYW only started a year or so after the tour was over. In fact, when I asked Matt Baumann about her attitude during the recording and how she said she wasn't happy, he said he only had heard that later and even though there was a lot of negotiating, it seemed like he never got the impression she was that dissatisfied. I find it hard to believe she totally hated the music and yet went ahead with a release.
