I HATE that they lowered the song down a key. Stevie sounds great, but I love it in the original key.
I agree with you about Rod's performance. I was at the show and Rod sounded fine. Granted, he's not Don Henley on this song, but he didn't butcher it. I am not sure where all the "Rod hate" is coming from. I would guess they lowered the key so Stevie could sing the higher harmonies. I didn't hear any complaints about the song from anyone sitting near me. People cheered for the song at the end. (hey, it beat having to hear Passion!) The song will only get better in the few nights that remain.

But seriously, I've played this video on repeat since you posted the link, John. THIS is why I love this woman. It's all captured in this video. I teared up the first time watching it, just remembering how much I love this song and loved that moment last summer.
yeah...like you said, that performance is the reason I have loved Stevie and been a fan for so many years now. I"ve always liked that song but it becomes something very magical on stage with just the piano and the girls. You can tell Stevie completely feels it. She feels every single word she is singing. What really got me was her expression after the "one tear..." part and also the final "am I happy..yes I am..." and she smiles and turns her head to the side. I do believe, at least at that moment, she is truly happy and you can see it on her face. And that makes me happy. I'm rambling I know but I'm a bit awestruck right now!

I agree, I really didn't find his performance so awful. The comments shock me. Did he screw up? Yep, he sure did...did he ruin the show for the audience? I doubt it.

It's not as if Stevie hasn't ever flubbed a lyric or two in her live performances. It happens...it's rock and roll! I was in Pittsburgh for the opening Unleashed show when Stevie flubbed up a word or two during Say You Love Me...a song that she had sung on hundreds of times before and surely, had rehearsed for quite some time with the Mac before that night in Western PA. Again, it happens, and it's all good. If I wanted absolute perfection I'd never attend a rock concert, I'd just listen to the recorded versions at home!

regarding L&L....not for nothing but you think Stevie could actually engage Rod into this performance? She apparently is not happy to be doing this song and it really shows. How can you expect Rod to be engaging her? She's appearing to be very closed off in her duets with him - not just in this particular performance but in most of them that I've seen so far. It's like, c'mon Stevie, this is supposed to be fun. Lighten and loosen up for crying out loud. I'm actually uncomfortable watching the two of them together. Not a lot of rapport between the two of them but that's no shock. Yeah, they did if for the money.

I'm sorry but am I the only one who feels that Stevie just looks pissed off here? I can just see her saying to herself... "I can't believe this man won't even fricken rehearse this song...I don't know why I'm even singing this only Don sings it with me...he forgot the lines ugh omg..."

She just has that "wtf" look. And if you also noticed on Young Turks from that same show she wasn't all smiles there either (like she has been previously)

Mama has something on her mind!

Also if you watch Young Turks from that same show (it's on youtube) at the end Rod explains how they rehearsed this song that afternoon - and Stevie has her arms on her side like "....yah."

Yeah, that was an unfortunate performance for Rod.

Stevie sounded absolutely amazing. Rod looked like he didn't know what the heck he was doing and he was completely awkward with his hands in his pockets swaying back and forth like that, not to mention the flub of the lines.

Despite Rod not feeling 100% well, he was smiling, moving about, and interacting with the audience (there was a girl who held up a rather large photo of Rod/herself from "back in the day", and Rod was playful with her . . . um, he put his hand in his pocket, and made a movement that, well, looked like something else! It was VERY funny!). I don't think I saw Stevie clearly interact with anyone (other than the people on the stage) except when she was waving at the end of Edge of Seventeen. She wasn't her normal self. Rod was playful with the band members, and they took an active cohesive role in interacting with the audience as well.

I got an email from a work buddy saying this: Had a great time and loved singing along to almost every song! Only a few people in our section danced and one woman asked them to sit down ~ happy to report they were polite and stayed standing and dancing! Was it us or did Stevie not look too happy to be singing with Rod? Enjoyed them both but he seemed a little looser and not afraid of the mistakes he made. His energy was amazing!

I don't give a rat's ass if he knew the words or not. His vocal sucked and I've never seen such a world-renowned performer give such an all around dull, lackluster performance when he's practically bouncing off the walls to his own songs. Not only that, he seemed to care less about his duetting partner or making any kind of magic happen between them. He seriously looked like he needed to take a major sh*t or something. As much as I want to hear L&L live I almost want them to go back to Passion so he doesn't continue to butcher a such a classic song.

Wow...it's so clear that during Young Turks Stevie is probably just completely dreading what is to come after...her expression is so distant at the end. And the body language between them as Rod looks at her while he says they're going to "attempt" to do the song is priceless...(more like Rod is going to attempt to do the song, yikes!)...hands on her hips...the tension is so evident. Stevie is not happy.

The way this tour is progressing I'm thinking Stevie is more looking forward to her own album release and her own tour where she can go back to her comfort zone. I think she's only seeing this tour as a rehearsal for her own solo tour. I think she's ready to move on.

Ehh..okay. Well it was the first night. Plus its not really a run-around-the-stage-dancing song. I'd rather have a nice new vocal from Stevie in Rod's set than that crappy performance of Passion.

I think if Stevie could take the time and make the effort to learn his lyrics, he could do the same for her, but w/e. This performance was painful to watch, all around. I'll be very surprised if this song stays in the set.

Performance of Love Is was stunning. I really do love this woman.

I think Stevie is the one to blame....

My friend was in the sound check and HE was the one that kept pushing her to run through it. She just kept saying she wasnt comfortable the entire time, but he made sure they got through it.

Someone made a comment about her not being happy during "Young Turks" and I totally agree! When she came out he said "We are going to do one of my songs and one of hers" and she just kind of scoweled...I think things hadnt been completely nailed down and she was half expecting him to just stick with Passion. So when they started with Young Turks instead she knew what was coming and was not happy the entire time.
