Nope... if the cops show up, it'd be next to impossible to prove you weren't furnishing alcohol to minors. They could slap you with some random offense too like endangering a minor. I wouldn't play with the kiddies anymore if I were you.

Check ur FB PM's.

I'm not necessarily talking about minors. People in general. If they BTOB, and get arrested after leaving, does the fact that they got themselves drunk, with their own booze, lessen the liability on my end?
I would think the fact that I only provided a pool, and no liquor, would free me of liability, unless they were OBVIOUSLY drunk, when leaving.

That's really strange-- I'm on birth control and I could be surrounded by 50 menstruating women and be unaffected.

As it should be It's not supposed to affect women who are on bc; hence why roomie is so irked/why it is humorous.

Mine's on the Wellesley bus that runs between my school and Harvard/MIT. People call it the f*ck truck for what they assume to be the obvious reason a Wellesley girl would GO to Harvard/MIT. I decided I needed to reclaim the term by making it literal. I've managed to pull this off twice so far.
This is EXACTLY why we are friends Marissa.

I have a few weird places... plane, bow of a yacht, front porch in daylight, pool table....

Unfortunately, we hit it off, big time. Besties, almost immediately. So we made the deal that they could come, as long as they spent the night(in another bedroom). They were not allowed to leave, if they drank. But then their friends were starting showing up, and it just got to be too much. And you can't explain to an 18yo, who has no job, or anything, how I could lose EVERYTHING. They just don't understand.

And since this is TMI...they were the ones who INSTIGATED the orgy. Then pissy and in denial, the next day. Things got ugly. We have since buried the hatchet, and they've asked if they can come party here, but I've made excuses, every time they've asked.

Yep, this year's rule is - absolutely NO ONE under 21. I will be 100% clear, on this. No exceptions.
Yeah. Just say no, dude.

Figure out who your true friends are and have them over. Then you won't have to stress about any of the above.
I'm with Cammie.

I know you didn't ask me, but reduce? Hmmm. Maybe. But it certainly wouldn't eliminate it.

I don' t think you'd be totally FREE of all liability. I could be wrong though.

Speaking of BC pills - I changed to a different brand about 6 months ago & haven't had a period since. I'm not complaining or anything but it IS a bit odd. At first I was so scared I took like 3 pregnancy tests. My GYN assured me there's nothing to worry about physically, so I guess I'll just keep on keepin' on.

This doesn't involve me at all, but I'm super curious as well. Cammie, please help As long as everyone was overage, if they drank on Homer's property but then left it and wreaked their own havoc elsewhere, I don't understand how he could possibly be at fault.

Yeah, I definitely dodged several bullets, last year. Rules will be in place, this year. I think especially the BYOB one(and obviously the NO MINORS one).

Well, first let me just preface this by saying that I am in no way providing legal advice, just a friendly opinion.

I'm not necessarily saying that someone would win a lawsuit if they filed one against Dave. But people file ill-fated lawsuits every day and, even if they lose, it still costs the person being sued time, money and stress.

This mostly applies to bars and is known as the Dram Shop rule. A person is drinking at a bar, is obviously drunk and keeps getting served and over-served. Said person then gets in their car and kills someone in a car accident on their way home. The bar can be sued by the family of the person killed. So, not only will the driver be sued, but the bar will be too. People have won suits like that before.

So, I'm not saying it applies to a private party like it would to a bar. However, if one of his guests got wasted, got in their car and killed someone, it wouldn't be a stretch for Dave to be named in the lawsuit. Particulary if the person who caused the accident was a kid with minimal limits on their car insurance policy and no assets to speak of. The injured party gets wind that the person was partying at Dave's house, someone does a little research and finds out Dave owns his home and a few others, and all of a sudden he and his homeowners carrier are named in the suit. He might be dismissed on Summary Judgment, or he might be in it til the end and found not liable. Either way, a lot of stress that could have been avoided. **** happens but there are ways to minimize the potential.

Just be careful... like you said, 18-20 year old kids have zero depth of understanding of consequences. That means if they're caught doing something illegal, they'd throw you under the bus to save themselves faster than you can say "orgy."

I know you like the pretty young thangs... but up the age of folks you hang out with by just a couple of years. Trust, it'll make your life much easier, more enjoyable, and less stressful.

Woah woah WOAH mister mod! That's so not true.

What I don't get about these parties is why. Why would people around the age of 18 want to go party at someone's house who is so much older than them? Maybe I'm just odd but I'd rather party at a friend's empty house or a booked venue.

Weirdest place I've been naked would be on a railway bridge on my hometown!
Weirdest place I've had sex is the woods with a n ex gf - I wasn't naked though.

I can see both sides of this. Back when I was 18-19 I ended up in a rather vulnerable situation at an older friends house. There was a lot of booze and more and just generally a lot of s**t goin on. Luckily I got myself out of it before things got out of hand but afterwards when things did go bad I wanted no part of it and could have easily done exactly what louie has saidl. Some bad stuff happened that night.

That said, what Georgie said is true. Rather than telling all to others I just kept quiet and said nothing - partly to protect people who were there and partly because I did not want to discuss it.

My apologies... I didn't mean to offend any younger Ledgies. Broad generalizations never help anyone, this is true. I should have said "most 18-20 year olds" lack a depth of understanding of consequences and actions. It's a simple fact the human brain isn't fully developed until about 24. Also, the young kids Homer is hanging out with are fresh out of high school and probably have never held a job, know nothing of accountability, etc.

It's just especially dangerous to party with younger folks in the US, as our drinking age is 21 here... and VERY strictly enforced. In my opinion, this does younger people no favors... it postpones growing up and learning to control yourself. It puts this huge taboo around drinking and glorifies bingeing. The US still very much has inner conflict between it's puritanical roots and being more realistic about human nature. For instance, you can join the military and die for your country at age 18 here... but you can't buy an alcoholic beverage until the age of 21. How f***ed up is that?!

Obviously not ALL younger people lack understanding of self control and consequences... but many DO. I thought I was better than that when I was younger myself... but I look back on the stupid, stupid stuff I did when I was younger and just kick myself now. Drinking and driving, having unprotected sex, stuff like that. I started out with such high aims for myself, but it's pretty easy to get snowballed into doing dumb sh!t.
