Default Demo questions, opinions, etc.

I thought about asking this on the Demo Requests thread, but it's not a request for a demo, so...what the hell, I'll just start a new thread.

I've been combing through all this demos & outtakes that I have, and decided that I really don't need 25 versions of The Dealer, so here's my question. If you could only have one version of The Dealer (you can pick one Tusk version and one Bella Donna version if you want), which one would it be?

Same goes for Lady from the Mountain.

I can't think of any others that were recorded 500 times, but if I do, I'll add them.

There are over 20 takes of "Julia". I'll keep them all.

Yeah, but I've decided that the one labeled Julia #5 is damn-near perfect, and probably the closest thing there ever was to a completed version of that song. I also like the "slow outtake" that is supposedly from The Wild Heart sessions.

I don't really care about having 20 versions of a song where 15 of them are mostly Stevie tuning her piano and asking someone to roll her a joint.

Don't get me wrong, it's interesting to listen to that stuff once, but those are not things I'm gonna put on my iPod and listen to at work or whatever.

I LOVE every version of Lady From the Mountain, but as far as I'm concerned, the version from the Rock A Little sessions is the one I couldn't live without.

Definitely my favourite version of Lady From The Mountain, by far. The others don't even come close.

Mirage demo of Smile At You beats all the others, too.

I've always been a fan of the "Jesse showed me at an early age" version of The Dealer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Beug6tu82Tc
The keyboards at the beginning sound like the Heartbreakers to me!

Most definitely! This version by a mile is my favorite. Stevie's RAL vocal is so alive, so electric. I can barely get through the Bella Donna demoed versions. I always go back to this one because I begin craving its intensity.

Julia #10 is my favorite. I would suggest you don't listen to us but sample all of them for yourself. Everyone's tastes are gonna be different.

I love Julia (Take #5). Wonderful.
I also love Gypsy (Take #7 w/ Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)

I understand that, but quite frankly, an awful lot of them sound almost exactly the same to me, and like I said, I'm not too terribly interested in the ones where she plays a couple of notes on the piano and then spends five minutes trying to get somebody to roll her a joint. Or tell some ridiculous story that has nothing to do with anything.

Also, most versions of The Dealer go on for way too long and the song ends up annoying me. Badly.

I'm just asking what people consider the cream of the crop here.

^^But you have to admit that the rambling 10-minute version of "Sleeping Angel" where she's cursing at the piano ("that f*cking note!") is pretty classic. That's the whole point of listening to these demos.

Oh, sure it is. It's all fun to hear once or twice, don't get me wrong. But when I want to hear a song, I just want to hear the damn song, you know?

I am partial to the RAL versions of LFTM.
