I hadn't heard that clip (or any clip) of Cheaper Than Free until just now, and honestly, it doesn't sound bad at all. I sort of understand why some of y'all may not like it - it's very country-ish, and if you don't like that kind of sound, then this probably would not be your cup of tea. Personally, I like country quite a bit.

Nope, the country thing is not a factor. The music and vocals all sound fine. I'm not a literary nazi by any means and am not anywhere near as critical as even Lindsey. The whole thrown down disscussion, I was on Stevie's side, even with the Bob Dylan overexageration. BUT isn't some rule in writing not to follow descriptive words like faster and deeper with those same danmed words!

I FINALLY got it to play on my Mac just now. Unless it's just me, it sounds even more twangy country than Dave's version of the song. I kinda figured Stevie's version would be more rock/pop. I guess it shouldn't surprise me Stevie's version is actually more twangy old school country... several songs on Bella Donna were quite country, most notably After The Glitter Fades.

Yeah, it has a very gin-soaked quality to it, which adds to the song's charm; and I think she & Dave sound great together. The lyrics do sound a bit simple, but I wonder if maybe that's the point. But I'd really have to hear the whole song to make a more definitive judgment.

I think Secret Love will work fine as an album opener. It's an enjoyable little ditty.

No surprises with the tracklist, but I'm glad it's been officially released. Wasn't wild about the New Orleans song actually being titled New Orleans initially, but I'm warming up to it. It's a pretty romantic name for a city, and it fits in there next to Wide Sargasso Sea and Moonlight.

A 13-track album full of fast-tempo rock would be overkill to the extreme. Mostly mid-tempo, with 2 or 3 slower ones and a couple of fast rockers sounds about right to me.

I agree..it sounds like they are going for maybe a 1950s country western vibe like Kitty Wells and Red Foley .. the duets she must have sung with A.J. Nicks when she was a tyke..I like it better than the version on Dave 's album from this snippet.
