I like Juliet. And Alice.
I think Secret Love will work fine as an album opener. It's an enjoyable little ditty. ![]() No surprises with the tracklist, but I'm glad it's been officially released. Wasn't wild about the New Orleans song actually being titled New Orleans initially, but I'm warming up to it. It's a pretty romantic name for a city, and it fits in there next to Wide Sargasso Sea and Moonlight. A 13-track album full of fast-tempo rock would be overkill to the extreme. Mostly mid-tempo, with 2 or 3 slower ones and a couple of fast rockers sounds about right to me. |

No. Juliet was one of the few songs I actually liked from that album and I did not like much else, rooms on fire and ooh my love, I could tolerate Alice

I think Annabel Lee should be Poe/Nicks/Stewart/Ballad. I'm fairly sure she said in an interview that Glen Ballad did something to the song, and Dave wrote an awesome bridge. Or something. I'd be pretty surprised if she didn't credit Poe, as well.

I can't keep up with who's been stating what as fact lately.I'm not so hot on the fact that Secret Love will be opening the album, normally her opening tracks are these epic, long, often rambling (but in a good way) tracks. Secret Love... is not.

Also, didn't she say something about writing "Italian Summer" whilst away in Italy, and that it was about a summer love? Hardly the kind of thing she would co-write. It was only speculation over the tracks, I wasn't confirming anything. But we certainly know that "Secret Love", "Annabelle Lee", "New Orleans" and "Soildiers Angel" are Nicks written only, as these are the 4 tracks that were all written before the Stevie/Dave sessions. Ah, cool. So Dave has possibly added to the track? That's great! One of the things I dislike about the demo is that it doesn't go anywhere - lets hope this has added a whole other dimension to the track Last edited by TheWILDheart; 03-29-2011 at 03:44 PM.. |

Well, it's a new album, so Stevie can try a new type of beginning!

Stevie did write Italian Summer in Italy. That is what she told us in December--she was staying in Ravello and left a handwritten set of lyrics for the owner of the villa to keep "because this place is going to be famous". (Meaning once people heard her song they would flock to the scene of its inspiration). I thought she said Dave wrote the track but I'm not sure. |

It's possible that she was referring to having written the poetry herself, while she was in Italy...but then that poetry turned into a co-written song with Dave.

Of the remaining 8 co-written songs > 7 are Dave Stewart collaborations. So it's looking to me, most likely that D.S. added something new to the older M.C. & S.N. collaboration. Remember when Mike said Stevie wanted to dig up one of their older songs, and they went into the studio and made it even better! So unless, there are only 6 D.S. co-writes on the actual record and the 7th one is the still to be announced *bonus track*, that would be my theory. ![]() Other than that, the only songs we have confirmation on is that YMBTO & ELY are Dave/Stevie collaboration. Though, Jondalar, I'd bet money that "Italian Summer" is taken from the book of poems Stevie sent to Dave, in which he added chords and instrumentation to, when they began writing together. But until we all have the liner notes, we are going to drive each other crazy. Everything is speculative at this time. But, I guess it is fun, now that it looks like we have the official track list. ![]() Last edited by Christopher; 03-29-2011 at 04:17 PM.. |

After hearing the snippet of "Italian Summer" in the sizzle reel, there is no doubt in my mind that Dave wrote the music; I just don't think something like this exists in Stevie's musical vocabulary. For one thing, it's waltz time. Secondly, it has a very sing-songy melody which would not seem out of place in a stage musical, and Dave just did the music for a new West End musical. Also, it sounds like something that would have fit beautifully on a Eurythmics album.

![]() Indeed - and we have no idea how many songs were recorded in total, how many made the final cut, or what was re-recorded and what was kept in and kept out etc. Stevie started the promotion for this album before it was finished - something I don't think she's ever done before Last edited by TheWILDheart; 03-29-2011 at 04:02 PM.. |
