Now that I've had the chance to see and hear the sizzle reel... I must admit that I absolutely LOVE the first song (that may be "Moonlight"
) and I like their treatment of "Annabel Lee" - a lot like the demo, but with some additional textures. But then it gets cheesy. I'm not sure about the song currently hypothesized as "Wide Sargasso Sea." First of all, why did they have to shoot this in her swimming pool? And then the dry ice machines beside the pool? Very, very cheap-looking. The song is smoldering and ablaze... they should have set a huge bonfire instead! I can't say I'm a big fan of the song since it doesn't seem to have much of a melody in that snippet... so I will reserve judgment until I hear more. But I must have to say that the big letdown was "Italian Summer." I thought it was going to be this slow, mournful ballad, but instead it sounds a bit corny. And she really doesn't have the kind of big voice that should sustain a note like that; it was a little bit harsh sounding to my ears.In general, I love some of what I've heard so far and I'm going to defer my judgment on the rest until May. More than anything, I love the fact that she has continued to maintain her standards of excellence when it comes to polish and production. There is nothing half-assed about any of these songs, and they demonstrate perfectly the care that she has always put into her craft. I just hope new listeners are willing to suspend reality for a moment and enter the world of Stevie Nicks. This is not an easy listening album and it will require effort for the uninitiated. It is so astonishing to hear an artist at this stage of her life put out something that is edgier than anything she has ever done! |

Is that actor made up to look like Edgar Allan Poe in the middle?
He must be the link to Annabel Lee.

Yes, I think he looks spot on, too. Loved the use of his image, since she was inspired by Poe. He looks great.

Ok, I watched this discreetly today at work on my small screen. Seeing this on Stevie's YouTube channel in full HD on a wide screen with great sound is even more mind-blowing. Ugh, I'm just useless today as all I can think about is Stevie, lol. It's been a great day!

I'm really sorry if someone has done this already - I tried my best to read all of the posts as usual, but I may have missed one! I took the liberty of editing the sizzle reel into an mp3, with the four tracks separated with some fade ins and fade outs. I definitely took out Dave's circus act at the beginning, and the "My name is Stevie Nicks" ad nauseam bit (sorry if that upsets anyone - I couldn't handle it!). I didn't fade in Moonlight, because I love how it starts with a heart attack. And I couldn't do anything about the equestrian sound bite in Annabel Lee.

By the way, I'm disappointed that Moonlight (from what we've heard) hasn't replicated the simple but gorgeous piano chords of Lady From The Mountain - but it's a masterpiece anyhow and I shan't complain (too much). And Wide Sargasso Sea is very Joan of Arc to me. I can hear elements of the demo in there. The vocal, perhaps. Anyone agree?

Hehe, looks like Dave might be wearing Stevie's clothes again when he's on the piano in the first song. It looks like her hat and maybe the pretty white coat she wears for HAEWAFY sometimes? Not sure, but I'm lovin Dave even more this week!
