I don't mean to be disrespectful (who, moi?), but really, what is the point of 7W? I could understand if it became a defacto refuge for those banned from the Ledge. But it's not even that; they don't seem to be posting over there. From what I can tell, it's basically a subset of people from the Ledge (along with a handful of non-Ledge people) posting about basically the same stuff that gets posted here first; there really isn't much in the way of unique content that I could think of. And overall you don't find the range of opinion and perspective that you find on the Ledge. In a nutshell, it's just kinda dull.

I agree with you, essentially. 7W was started as a temporary place to post while The Ledge was down for a few days back in 2005. Instead of closing down when The Ledge came back up, the admin at the time (LiquidBlue5000) kept it open for some reason. The fan base split and ever since there has been this stupid rivalry with people here saying the people there are all ~airy-fairy wyndchyld~ types and the people over there saying the people here are mean and unwelcoming . Members from both boards have trolled the other in the past further amping up the rivalry, causing bans and bad feelings on both forums at various times. Neither stereotype is true, and it's just silly!

They could think the same thing about The Ledge.

Why are there both Loews and Home Depot? Why both O'Reilly's and Auto Zone? No one has a monopoly on Stevie. Both sites meet the needs of different types of Stevie Fans as well as the SAME Stevie Fans. Different places might have different perspectives. Gemini types, like Stevie, have been known to like variety and constancy as well.

I think perhaps I could've used a better choice of words, certainly. It just upset me when Lorraine, who is one of the nicest people here was rejected for seemingly no reason. I want to say that I dont believe everyone on SW is like that.

IDK, for me its always about Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac information *1st and foremost*. I've been a member of this board for a much longer time, but never understood the rivalry that sometimes arises. It's just silly and petty and works it's way out one way or another anyway. But HejiraNYC is right, the other board has become stagnant and a bit on the dull side. I think the tide turned when they transferred it to a tiered voluntary donation membership = additional access site.

Af far as individual members go, until recently, I never really tracked the personalities (though I do miss J. Stews posts)! Thats low on the totem poll for me, I visit both boards and see who has the most up to date information, followed by which has the most interesting threads/discussions. I'm too old for all the cliquey chit! What gets & keeps me interested is a well written & thought out point of view. I look forward to our mini Stevie/Mac op-ed's. And though I'm not taking sides or interested in starting a skirmish, I have to say, I visit & post on the Ledge more, due to it definitely winning in diversity & perspective in writing...so far.

I'm not saying that anyone has a monopoly on Stevie or FM. I was only asking why someone would go to a board that has essentially the same content (or less), and is just not as interesting and varied. But if that floats your boat, more power to you. If I was going grocery shopping, would I go to the bigger store with the fresher produce and the greater selection, or would I go to the corner store with a limited, unvaried selection? I would personally go to the former rather than the latter.

My application (and essay!) that I submitted to this site had no response back to me for months after I emailed it in. I just assumed there was a glitch or a backup of applications wanting to join ~ no big conspiracy theory in my head of "banning" or whathaveyou. When suddenly, months later, I got an email from here, I knew that there had been a glitch, as I surmised, and was happy to be a member here.

Same here. I started out my online days posting on the Fleetwood Mac Legacy board (www.fmlegacy.com) because it was just so friendly, homey, and a more manageable scale. But after I graduated college and began working full time, I focused my Fleetwood Mac time on the Ledge simply because it's the best source of Fleetwood Mac info on the internet. Anything that goes down is always posted here, and is always posted here first AND with the most detail. Over the years though I've managed to make some great buddies here. That was never my intent when I joined, I just wanted to stay abreast on all Mac developments. But it's been a most welcome addition .

And a third option would be to shop at both, getting what you enjoy from both locations.

Edit: Especially since you're not literally driving across town from one store to the other, but merely clicking a mouse.

I think the general perception of the Ledge is a) It's not what it was. b) Everyone hates Stevie Nicks. c) Everyone is mean and stuck up. d) It is overrun by morons. These are certainly unfair, gross generalizations, but there is also a kernel (or two) of truth in there too. All I can say is that it takes all kinds- the lovers, the haters, the dummies, the smarties, the nice and the mean, etc. I think once you start to meticulously try to engineer the composition of the participants, that's when the board becomes a ghost town. There's nothing to discuss if everyone is on the same bandwidth.

I think certain parts of the internet are fading in general across the board in places like chats and message boards and the online experience in general from what things used to be in their heyday and Sevenwonders is just yet another forum that's taken a hit from people waning away, sadly. I'd like to see it bounce back really because it was a fun place. All good things seem to come to an end over time online and who knows, one day the same might eventually happen to other sites like Facebook and other social outlets when the next big thing comes along or people move on to other things and lose interest. No one really knows why certain avenues of the internet have faded over time or what caused the demise. Lets just hope The Ledge stays afloat because the internet is changing in case people haven't noticed. I like both 7W and The Ledge for different reasons and will go wherever there is life and chatter and things to talk about.

You got mistakenly rejected because of spammers. He gets a ton of applications a day from them and sometimes it's hard to tell what is what. He apologizes.

They are still looking for people to join the Stevie Street Team. The Street Team will distribute the winning poster and one of the Street Team Members will win a prize. Go to sevenwonders to vote on poster and to join the team. Get involved and help promote this album.
