I'm grappling with the context in which Sheryl and Stevie can be so messy! It's funny though. Was the "Shine" show a small off-shoot gig? I can see this as being completely acceptable in a small club-like setting, but not for a high-ticket show. I aways anticipated that their live version was a beautifully polished performance, not a drunken, basement garage band rendition!

I didn't listen to but a snippet of SDMHA, but my guess is mainly Stevie's off kilter because she doesn't have her teleprompter or her ear monitor. So she can't remember her own words OR hit the correct pitch without reminders!

...and I'm sure Mary Jane didn't help, either

As I recall, it was a very low-key, small-venue show the night before TISL came out, or very close to it. I think there were other guests there that night (I want to say Kid Rock? Keith Richards maybe?), but it definitely was NOT advertised as featuring Stevie and the other guests.

Well, then that makes sense. Essentially it was a bunch of friends getting together, getting wasted, letting loose and having a good time. Professionalism was not a factor. Clearly!

I happen to be digging all of these recordings. I love hearing Stevie letting her guard down and acting ...well, like the rest of us. It's like the tapes we all have where she swears. She comes across as much more real than the image she tries to hide behind. That's Stevie Nicks the person and not the image. She's so much more interesting.

Shine was a tiny little club on Bleecker Street in the Village; I've only been there once to see the last show ever by... Salt nPepa! It is fairly tiny with low ceilings and a low stage. I didn't know about this gig at all, but from what I can recall, I think it was invite-only anyway. Kid Rock was there. Keith Richards was there. It was a lot of sloppy, drunken covers, so if anything, it would have been a bit of a buzz kill if Stevie was up there all stoic and serious. She got into the spirit of things, even if it meant having to surrender her 30-day chip.

This show was actually listed in the papers the day of the show as having Stevie and Kid Rock there. Back then Sheryl would often play a few club shows around the city with special guests and tickets were available to the public. I am trying to find the article from the NY Post from that morning. Great show.

As Stevie has said several times, alcohol has never been her problem. "I'm not an alcoholic," she said, and that's why she refused to go to AA in 1987. That's why her handlers forced her to go to the psychiatrist, worried she'd relapse on cocaine (thinking AA meetings could somehow help her). Of course, this guy got her hooked on Klonopin instead.

Personally I prefer this side of Stevie. It's much more rock n roll and reminds me if her wilder days. I realize she had to grow up and sober up sooner or later but her performances these days all seem so overly controlled and wooden in comparison.

It's cool sounds like they were around friends and everyone was having a great time and it was not the first time Stevie was performing drunk or stoned before seen her on her last tour being coked up,drunk and stoned on the rock a little tour in 1986 she was awesome then and still awesome today good for Sheryl and Stevie having a great time along with letting lose and putting a buzz on. Well on Trouble In Shangri-La she was doing shots of Tequila before going on stage to calm her nerves so my guess she might have been doing shots of tequila this night. But not a true fan for posting this audio clip of Stevie.
