Nuclear Incident, (4 Reactor Meltdown / Loss of Reactivity Control), Site abandoned, whatever,

Volcanic Eruption, (minor distraction), whatever,

Stock Market plumetting, ( ouch $$$$, somebody is making a killing), whatever,

No Electricity, (why are the lights not working), whatever,

No Food, (I could stand to lose a few pounds), whatever,

No Water, (sh*t this could be serious), whatever,

It's 29 Degrees, (phuque; I'm not too happy about this, it's not warm), whatever,

It's snowing, (kinda pretty), whatever,

However;

When will this get better for the People of Japan,

Nope.

A coworker of mine just found out that her mom is being taken out of Japan. Her dad is American, and her mom holds dual citizenship. They've lived in Japan for the past several years because her dad is a fireman on a U.S. military base. Her dad has to stay there, but her mom has to leave the country. They might take her to Korea, but no one is able to say yet where she and the other military dependents will have to go. Rightfully so, my coworker is freaking out. In a stroke of good news, her aunt's family lived in Sendai, which was prettymuch obliterated - but just yesterday they were able to make contact and she found out that her aunt and family members are all alive and ok, after not knowing since Friday.

And now today, the possibility of a total nuclear meltdown at one of the damaged reactors is being described as 'likely' by U.S. officials.

If anyone's interested, there's currently an online "telethon" coming out of the SXSW festival going on right now. Lots of bands who are in Austin for the festival are stopping by and playing a few tunes in hopes of raising some funds for the Red Cross work in Japan. Great way to hear some (awesome) new bands and support a good cause!

One of my best friends just left for a study abroad program in Japan today. She's on the plane right now, but before she took off, her program called to inform her of this and told her that they don't anticipate/haven't seen much damage from this quake.

Yeah, I'm still kind of nervous about her going, but she's had the chance to back out for awhile now, and she's dead set on going through with it.
