Default Wisdom Teeth Removal

Well, I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed this morning..

In the scheme of things, I think I'm doing okay and the procedure went fairly well.

I'm on vicodin which really hasn't done much other than make me sleepy (and I'm sure ease some pain). My cheeks are feeling pretty tight and swollen, and it took FOREVER for the bleeding to stop (I had gauze stuffed in my mouth until like 8 pm). So I didn't really eat much at all today because I just had no appetite... I mostly slept.

Does anyone have any advice for some different things to eat? I basically have applesauce, yogurt, pudding, and jello. I have a feeling I'm going to get really sick of that really soon.

Or just any advice in general, like what not to do and what helps? I know it's a big no-no to use straws...

I had a wisdom tooth removed in January, but I don't really know what to tell you about what to eat ....I actually went to school after the procedure & then went straight home and ate a burrito. It was delicious, & my mouth didn't hurt that bad, it was after a few days when I couldn't eat anything.

I was eating sandwiches the evening after I had my wisdom teeth yanked.

It seems that everyone has different experiences and reactions after it... I've talked to some people who, like you guys, were eating pretty normally very soon after the procedure. I also talked to a girl who had steak the next day, and thanksgiving dinner the day after that.

Then there are the people who eat applesauce for two weeks lol.

I think I'm somewhere in the middle... it does hurts to move my mouth too much, but physically I feel fine - ie, I'm not bed ridden and the vicodin isn't really drugging me up like I thought it would... so hopefully I can be back to normal soon.

Thanks for your insight!

Fortunately, gums heal quickly. Everyone is different, but soups and ice cream are good until you're ready. Having all four at once is quite a big thing- take care of yourself.

Maybe michelle2677 will chime in.

I had all 4 out 2 years ago and I was high as a kite on Percocet. From what I remember you can't have anything too hot or cold but I still had soup and ice cream and all that, just let the hot stuff cool down some. The swelling for me was worse than the pain so it made it harder to eat. Mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, pasta with just sauce without any meat or chunky stuff didn't bother me, milkshakes, eggs, fish as long as it's not fried or any crunchy breading etc. on it, whatever you do don't eat rice especially if your's were pulled and not surgically removed (mine were still under the gum line so I was stitched up). That's basically all I had for a few days.

I've tried to not tell my story, because it ain't purty.
I had all 4 pulled at the same time. The top ones came out like butter, but the bottom ones refused. He pulled and pulled...not to mention that I'm the guy that they can't get numb. It's nothing for them to have to give me 10-15 Novocaine injections, sometimes more. He had to cancel his next THREE appointments, because he couldn't get them out. My roots were intertwined with each other(interlock your fingers). He finally sawed them in half, and pulled out the pieces(most of them).

I was those black and blue purple streaks, all the way down onto my chest. My head swelled up like a basketball. I tried to take Vicodin, but it makes me nauseous, and combined with the copious amounts of blood, that was still coming from the holes, wasn't a good combination. Vomiting, would have been a true nightmare. So I just dealt with it, with some Advil. I had root slivers, working their way out of my gums, for about 2 years.
Without a doubt, the worst "medical" thing, that has ever happened to me.

Oh goodness, what a horrific experience you had! I'm so sorry you had such a hard time. This makes me very thankful that I've been as lucky as I have with the procedure.

Mine were surgically removed.. they stitched up all but one of the incisions (I'm not quite sure why they didn't stitch one, I think it had something to do with difficulty getting the tooth out on account of it being so high up or something)..

And I rather WISH I were high on some kind of medicine right now haha, because I'm feeling the pain pretty bad today and instead of making me feel good the vicodin has just made me crabby and sleepy.

I think I'm gonna try to have some noodles tomorrow, but for today I'm gonna have to stick with food that doesn't have to be chewed at all... I literally can't move my mouth without having sharp pains. I have to eat with my tongue and by tilting my head back lol.

I had all 4 out at the same time & it wasn't too bad. But then a friend came to town, we went to dinner (several days after the surgery, when I thought I was healed), & I made the mistake of biting into a soft piece of bread. I think I almost pass out. Be careful.

I got all four of mine out at once. I decided to go out completely. I can barely get through a dentist appointment as it is. Everything went fine for me. When I came to, I was laughing hysterically. The dentist said that boys come out of it laughing hysterically and girls cry hysterically (if you get put under). The pain meds were nice. I watched a lot of TV that weekend.

Seriously

Was this a general dentist or an oral surgeon?

Haha really? I had laughing gas first before they knocked me out completely. Heart Of Glass came on the radio and I was singing along loudly slurring words as I was told by the nurse and then I got knocked out completely. When I woke up I remember just staring around the room feeling drunk as hell trying to figure out where I was, didn't cry once. Apparently I was stumbling around like a drunk as well and had to be wheelchaired out of the place.

Mine were surgically removed, but my Dr did not stitch any of mine up. The reason he didn't stitch mine up is because I am a diabetic and he felt that leaving them unstitched would take longer to heal, but I had a much higher chance of infection if he stitched them. I ended up getting a dry socket tho, so that sucked :[ However, food-wise I ate soup, jello, pudding, yogurt, ice cream, and pasta for the first week or so and then I was able to move on to bigger and better things. It took 4 months tho until I could fully open my mouth again.

Jannie, it was my general dentist(who is an ex-Army dentist, a loooong time ago[although he's only probably 55-ish]). He did tell me, afterwards, that if he knew it was going to be that rough on me, that he would have sent me to an oral surgeon. Which I'm sure, would have cost x 5. But I like him. He's a good guy, and what's more, he laughs at my stupid jokes(and I laugh at his!). We're kismet!

Who picks their doctors, based on their sense of humor? ME! My GP moved away recently, and I, quite literally asked her, which one of the new doctors, had the best sense of humor, because that's the one I want!
I'm not paying for someone who doesn't have a decent sense of humor! Laughing at my stupid jokes, is mandatory!(thank god have have no real health issues!)
