SAY YOU WILL sales total update

Not even available for a month yet, and according to Nielsen SoundScan, 369,000 copies of SAY YOU WILL have been sold.

Though I'm not an expert, these numbers look good, and with the tour getting the kind of reviews it is getting, with the added punch of the new material going over well in concert, should add to the steady sales of SAY YOU WILL well into the summer.

Everyone think this one will go platinum?

I think Soundscan is the actual cds sold over the counter. I think certification of gold and platinum is for total cds "shipped". Since they've sold about 400,000 units at retail, they'll be certified gold very shortly and platinum in a few weeks. They've replenished the stores so the ship total must be well on it's way to 1 million.

Hopefully they'll release a new single soon to fuel sales.

Yes, and these are only soundscan sales and not all stores are soundscan "participants." That is part of the reason why gold and platinum certification is determined on units shipped. I read at one time that soundscan sales are 60-70% of total. Anyone know if this percentage is still correct? I read that several years ago.

The record should easily go platinum. There will be momentum from the tour and (if there are) any new singles that would get significant airplay. This should push sales further.

The album did get a boost from last years Very Best Of Package, which has gone platinum and sparked a renewed interest in the band, and from The Dixie Chicks recent hit cover of Landslide, which , for the wrong reasons, has dropped into oblivion.
