That resonated when Lindsey said that Tom told him that Gift of Screws is the album he wanted back then, in place of Under the Skin. Ouch.

All I can say is that the sequence worked best for me, because I loved UTS when it came out, but if it had been released after GOS I'd have been disappointed.

sorry to hear - hope the surgery results turn out great.

i thought LB sounds really normal in that interview (for FM member). like a part-time-working part-time-stay-at-home dad. not getting enough sleep b/c having to get up with the kids (somebody here commented that he suddenly aged over the last 10 years - not being able to sleep when you want would do that to you, ask any parent)... listening to kids' radio stations in the car... or switching to different stations and hearing different stuff that he normally wouldn't notice b/c kids complain about whatever he wants to listen to. that's one of the things i find really interesting in general - kids open new and unexpected horizons, whether in music or all kinds of other stuff.

I wish Lindsey WOULD listen to the hiphop to which his kids listen. The new Kanye album could surely open sonic-confessional horizons for Lindsey. As for Vampire Weekend... Lindsey SHOULD have gone to Africa with Mick.

But then it's not my life. It's his.

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

well, for what it's worth new kanye album came out after that interview. don't know about LB's kids, but according to my 13yo kanye "used to be hiphop and is now just mainstream rap" (i have no opinion either way)

I actually think he listens to some pretty cool, cutting-edge stuff. I mean, he's always a little late at it because normally he's hyping an artist who really hit their stride a year or two prior (ex: Vampire Weekend) but he's still on the game. And he probably does listen to Kanye or even Gaga...don't his children run that house?

I totally agree with you on the Africa thing!

THANKS SO MUCH for posting this article! I loved reading his comments. He wasn't overly-repetitive and seems in a really positive place.

So, why does Lindsey have to get up at 6 in the morning too? Is he making them their bologna sandwiches and packing the Hannah Montana lunch boxes himself?

Right! I mean, was their mom sleeping in? He couldn't have been given any slack that day?

I just thought this was interesting. Googled "Seeds We Sow" and got an interview with LB in 2003 with this quote (discussing his leaving FM in '87, etc.):

"Leaving was a survival move for me. I said, “I’ve got to grow in some way. I can’t do this anymore.” And maybe doing that, which no one in the band was too happy about at the time, was the only way to sow the seed for what’s happening now. So when Mick came to me, he had done a lot of growing. He asked if I wanted him to play on some of my tracks. In retrospect, my paranoid self might’ve suspected that this “synchronicity” was organized. It doesn’t really matter though--the joy that came out of us was pretty extraordinary. Eventually, John McVie came in, and at some point, with three of us together in a room recording, a light bulb went off; Someone said, “Well, what about a reunion thing?” Stevie wanted that too, so my solo album went on the shelf."
And today I was looking at this from 2009:

Quote:
“There’s still a push-pull inside me that says I need to redefine myself creatively, but I did two solo albums in the last three years, so it allowed me to feel a little more relaxed about doing something like this,” he says. “I am very consciously going into this not wanting to drive anyone in the band crazy if I can help it—and sometimes it doesn’t take a lot for me to do that. My priority is working on the interaction within the band, especially between me and Stevie. I’m doing a tour that the industry and the listeners and the rest of the band want, and maybe sow some seeds of stability for once.”

Cool, Michele. I just hope we'll reap the benefits from all this seed sowing. I think the harvest is ripe!

You can't plant no seed, where there's only greed.
