Default Love for Adele

For anyone who hasn't heard of this girl at the moment you are seriously missing out...

She is probably the best female singer-songwriter the UK has at the moment. In the UK charts she has made history by being the first artist since the Beatles to have 2 top 5 singles in the chart and 2 top five albums in the chart simultaneously:

The download of 'Someone like you' rose 46 positions to Number 1 while her current released single 'Rolling in the deep' is at no. 4.

Her 2 albums, the debut - '19' - (released 2 years ago), and her current album, - '21' (released just over 2 weeks ago) are both also sitting at positions 1 and 4!!

Personally for me she is an amazing singer and songwriter... Such heartfelt lyrics who can describe break-up and how you feel almost as good as Stevie Nicks.

The latest album is utterly fantastic and the best i've heard in a long time.

Here are a few live performances :

Someone like you Live on Jools Holland -

Someone like you - At the Brit awards - (she gets very emotional at the end)

Rolling in the Deep - Live

Adele is absolutely amazing, and I her performance "Somebody Like You" on Jools Holland is great way to introduce her to new ears.

Her upcoming May 15 show at Boston's House of Blues (2,500 capacity) sold out in one day, which is extraordinary considering her single "Rolling in the Deep" didn't receive much airplay here, her CD isn't even out yet, and she hasn't embarked on her U.S. press tour.

"Set Fire to the Rain" was just chosen as the second single.

Set Fire to the Rain - is actually probably one of my favourite songs on the album !!
SO glad that it too will get a chance at some air-play!!

I really want to see her - She's got a string of gigs in the UK on the way... (Pity she won't come to Belfast though...) =(

Rolling in the deep is the best single i heard in a long, long, LONG time. Just amazing.
Heard the song I'll be waiting yesterday night, on my favorite radio, and it was the "power play" of the night, so i listened to it like 4 times, and it's kind of catchy. Not as good as Rolling in the deep, though.
What are the highlights on the album? I might buy it...

I love Adele, and I'm really happy with all the success she's having now. Compare her to poor, poor Duffy. Two years ago, it was all about her, while Adele was sort of forgotten (after Chasing Pavements) now Duffy's released an awful flop of an album (she says she wrote it in three weeks... one can tell) and now Adele is experiencing what we can only call "total chart domination".

I was actually pretty indifferent towards Adele, until I heard Someone Like You at the Brits, she totally won me over with that performance.

What are the highlights on the album? I might buy it...
1. I loved 'Rolling in the deep' simply because of the stomping drum beat and the way Adele weaves her voice round the song... (Then again she does that with nearly all her songs!) lol

2.The second track 'Rumour has it' is similar in that its really up-tempo and has great drum beat and tambo action. Theres also a really great break in the middle of the song where she strips it back and then it bursts back into the chorus. Really nice finish.

3.The third song - 'Turning Tables - is the first ballad - Nice piano intro like 'Hometown Glory'. It's definitely one of her solid ballads. Lots of people ive spoken to really like this - The chorus is exceptional and she certainly weaves her voice around this one.

4. 'Don't You Remember' is next - This is stand-out for me. Adele and an acoustic guitar to open. Builds lighly and her voice does all the work for the chorus. Even as a guy this is heart-breaking = MAybe even more-so than 'Someone like You'

Chorus: 'Don't you remember, the reason you left me before? Baby, please remember me once more...
Verse: "When was the last time you thought of me? or have you completely erased me from youre memories?"

Personally this i think is stunning.

5. Set Fire to the Rain - I also love this track. This one is a little bit of a slow burner for the opening but by the verse its a classic. Its an up-tempo ballad (if theres such a thing? lol) - I love her tone of voice for the chorus when she sings "I set fire to the rain, Watched it burn as i touched your face..." By the end when she repeats the line "Let it burn'... you are totally sucked in - actually feel immersed in the flames or rain (whichever you prefer) lol

6. 'He wont go' - Not a bad song but this would probably been one of the lesser tracks in my opinion. Still some good lyrics though and images within.

7. Take it all - Another stand-out heartbreaker -

"Didn't i give it all, tried my best, gave you everything i had, everything and no less..."
She questions then How could you walk away? Is this really it and how could you give up so easily? Then concludes 'go on a take it all, don't look back, at this crumbling fool. Just Take it all with my love...."

This is utter perfection in my opinion.

8. I'll be waiting - one of the uptempo tracks like 'rolling in the deep', though just not as good but still solid.

9. One and only - This one has a smooth beat almost like a kind of dusty springfield standard at parts but with more soul. Another good track. The piano and middle section are excellent 'When she sympathises ' I know it aint easy, giving up your heart..." which runs into her challenge ' I dare you to let me be...'

10. This is the cover track of the album - (Adele covered 'Make you feel my love' by Bob Dylan (i think) for her debut) Here the track is Lovesong - cover by The Cure. But while Make you feel my love was a standout on her last album, this is actually probably the weakest track of the album. It would really be the only track i would potentially skip from time to time

11. Someone like you - I think the above video's I posted speak for itself. This is a stunning song. Adele always floors her audience with a closing track. Ie. Hometown glory on the last album. This time is no different

----------------------------------

All in all I totally agree... Never mind album of the year. This is up there for album of the Decade.

Duffy's debut was brilliant but her new album is a load of absolute rubbish. She shouldn't have changed producers and the winning formula of songwriting, voice and soul music she had on 'Rockferry'.

Well Done to Adele for this stunning album. Here is an artist who's songwriting has matured and won't be rushed... In my opinion she has pretty much achieved perfection!

I agree... the first time I heard Rolling In The Deep on the radio back in November it truly brought a tear to my eye. It's so refreshing to hear someone who oozes talent on the radio.

I heard Right As Rain on the radio the other day... and what a fun song that is! I never bought her first album, 19, because I thought Chasing Pavements was annoying. But this song is just plain infectious!

I already found Rolling in the Deep totally heartbreaking, though uptempo like you said, so i can imagine how sad those other songs must be. Can't wait to hear the album, and i'm definitely buying it, since she covered one of my favorite songs. Yay for Adele!

Without a doubt. I really liked 19, but holy f*ck 21 is amazing. I adore this girl.

Take that Duffy! Now if we could just get rid of Cheryl Cole...

She performs on VH1 Unplugged on March 3.

The set-list consists of one cover song ( "You Make Me Fell Like a Natural Woman", which is available on VH1's website) and five of her own songs: "Someone Like You, " “Rolling In The Deep,” “Chasing Pavements,” “Don’t You Remember, " and “Turning Tables.”

Heh, indeed! Duffy just seems like such a record label creation to me. Her album Rockferry was enjoyable enough, but her true colors shine live in concert. She stinks!

Music industry speculators are unanimously predicting that Adele with capture the #1 U.S. album spot next week.

From Hits Double Daily: "Adele's 21, which hits U.S.retail today, has pre-orders totaling nearly 60k over multiple accounts. Add in strong out-of-the-gate sales with huge digital numbers and early indications suggest it will sell around 225-250k, a lock for #1 next week."

Yes, her voice is like buttah. Even my fellow metalhead can't deny that.
