If only Stevie would come out of hiding and appear and perform on TV more often. Heaven!

That Solid Gold performance is such a thing of beauty!

On the positive side, she looked fantastic.
I totally agree with you. She did look amazing but that performance was dreadful...I thought the 2007 performance on Ellen was a million times better all the way around from voice to energy level to commitment. I still can't believe she actually did that song again! Geeez. And to make matters worse, I watched the show with someone I'm dating who was/is a fan from back in the day so this was my opportunity to reintroduce him to the "modern" Stevie. I felt almost embarrassed, wanting to explain that she usually performs a lot better than that.

Well, I mean for me I would say unfortunately that's the case. But look at all the others who adore that sound. We all have different ears.

And who knows what might happen? It was only a couple of years after the ugly-sounding Timespace tour that Stevie demonstrated the richness & vibrato of the 1994 tour.

She seems to run out of breath a lot while she's singing live (where you have to force projection a lot more than singing in a studio). She pushes all the air out of her lungs & is then forced to continue holding a note, which gives it that strident, harsh sound--very flat & without tone.

As one ages, too, one breathes more shallowly. The muscles of one's diaphragm lose strength & elasticity. If I were Stevie's vocal coach, I'd say, "Sing however you want, but let's work on increasing core strength, building whatever abdominal muscles we can still build at your age."

Here comes a stupid question: does Stevie have a vocal coach?

As far as the running out of breath is concerned, she is strapped into a tight corset...

Interesting. To my ears she's either "lost" some of what made her voice unique or she picks and chooses when to use it. For instance, I hear "it" again in this new single and I also heard it on "Say Goodbye". But, I don't hear it often.

Ok, I do like that but it does sound like she was stripping her chords.

I always thought her vocal coach is Steve Real - since The Dance?

Have you considered applying for the job? I think Stevie needs you!

When did Stevie switch vocal coaches? I always thought that Steve Real was her vocal coach and has been since the Dance tour.

I know it may have wreaked havoc on her vocal chords but I much prefer wild and crazy vocals Stevie, over her confined and restrained vocals today. Sometimes you just gotta bust loose.

I have to say, I agree. However, women's voices are generally at their peak in their thirties and after that range diminishes and lowers. So if Stevie were a normal person who aged, that might have something to do with it too

I agree with that point to some degree. But she was such a hot mess on the Rock a Little tour. I was at her show in Boston - the first time seeing her live. I was so dissapointed in her performance -- her vocal mannerisms ran rough-shod over the songs to the point they were barely recognizable. Her pacing was all off, and no one could understand what the hell she was saying when she talked to the audience - she was in another world. I thought, " I know she is better than this."

The performance of "Stand Back" posted here pretty much sums up how she, in a spastic coked-out dillerium, delivered all of her songs. Look how she competely fu*ked up the lyrics! Instead of singing the second stanza of the second verse, she forgets it and goes right into the chorus, while the band, lock-stepped in the arrangement, plays on. She attempts to recover, but has completely lost her place. I wonder what her band members must thought of her condition at this point.

She even fell off the stage somewhere on the RAL tour.
